How can you look at this scene and not catch your breath, and
feel yourself soaring off into space like a falcon, seeing it from miles high?? . Here is my temple, my most Sacred places
in the world, these mountains the world over. Mountains are about as Grand as it gets aren't they? They are the Oldest
Ones - the true elders of the race of Life on this planet. The first ones. We need to not only Appreciate these irreplaceable Wonders
we are so blessed to be living in the same World with - they are so far beyond us in majesty and in consciousness - Imagine
what a mountain like this one Knows... Shows you where your place, all our place, really is. It makes me crazy to
think that some folks thought it would be OK to carve up a mountain like Mount Rushmore ( I'm ashamed to say I don't know
it's proper name given to the People who lived with it). What hubris. We're just what makes the compost so these mountains
can be dressed in such glory... I can't help but feel humbled by this beauty. We must see to their Survival.
To see that at the very least we do
Not Destroy One More Blessed Acre...
If We dont' do it.... Who will?
If We don't do it Now.... When will we??

These warriors have a pretty clear idea of what you
sometimes have to do to protect the earth. I may not choose to carry a gun, but I feel my own version of this energy in my
defense of the earth, and in my strong desire to protect what can be protected. As I’ve mentioned I co-own some land
which has been dedicated as a Sanctuary by us as one small piece of the earth where we have a chance to let it just Be the
way it wants to be. Of all the 40- acre parcels (as they call them) around us, we’re the only one that hasn’t
been recently logged - ours was logged in 1980, 4 years before we bought it. I’ve personally watched as these other
parts of the mountain have been logged, crying alternating with fury that they could cut down the forest so casually. I can
get pretty worked up about it. I seriously considered some monkey-wrenching but I would have been too easy a target. It taught
me to focus on what I Could protect, but I still get upset thinking about it all. So the words below are words I need to remember.
Deena Metzger wrote:
"There
are those
who
want to Set Fire to the World,
We
Are Endangered.
There
is Time only to Work Slowly,
there
is No Time Not to Love".
Being gentle with ourselves
is a hard thing when we're so driven to stop the fires. It seems like things are spiraling out of our control - and guess
what - they always have been and always will be! Chaos Theory seems so Obvious doesn't it when you just slow down and let yourself Be in it? Let
the boundaries and the patterns that shape our realities shift as they will, knowing that the patterns return and return,
knowing you can count on
that.
So, hey - chill...fight
the fires,
but do it
with Love in your Heart.
As Joe Leaphorn
says in the movie version of
"Coyote Waits", by Tony Hillerman:
"Sometimes we don't Solve Anything...
We
just re-arrange the Mystery"
.....but
that doesn't mean we should stop trying...
