Links to Other Useful Sites

Boy this is hard. There are so many places I'd like to turn you onto, but it's gonna take some space and some patience on your part to find all the ones I'll be listing here. I'm trying to put brief descriptions of each site along with the link but as you can see it's not always easy to do that in a few words. Some sites will need no explanation, others quite a lot. But the main thing I'm trying to get across is how much we rely on one another to keep things together.  We are truly interconnected whether we see it or not.

I'm hoping this will shine a little light on that and bring some new awareness into your life via these unique sites. If you have suggestions for me, or would like to share links back and forth please contact me here and we'll get it set up. You'll also find a number of links on two other sites listed on the previous page - "Trees Are the Heart of the World", and "WolfDance Sanctuary" sites both have lots of environmental links so I haven't put too many of those here.  You'll note it's a bit heavy on the Mental Health energy here, but that's because I'm Bipolar and it matters to me that people learn more about this Mad and Magical world I live in.  Happy Browsing!!

I've recently discovered this site again and I find it full of a wild interest. It's tagline is "Navigating the Space Between Brilliance and Madness" and it's a site created by and for people with serious mental conditions, primarily people with Bipolar Syndrome, Disorder, Illness - whatever you wanna call it. It's a  very open-minded site and allows all sorts of perspectives on just what is going on inside our brains - whether you take a diagnostic/medical route, or one that refuses to be classified and labeled and certainly not medicated, or somewhere in between like me.  I feel right at home with their concepts that Bipolar is a "Mad Gift" and one we should cherish and learn to integrate into our hearts and souls rather than seek to discard it and treat it as something not a part of us.

Liminal Realities

Here's a link to the site of a company I'm helping to create with my friend and co-author Deah. There's more on it every day so check out what we've got so far while we keep building it. It's offering some unusual, useful, integrated ideas for us to learn more about Healing, and what prevents that from happening. How our body/mind/spirits work, or don't work - together and within ourselves. We'd be honored if you'd join us in our mutual journeys of discovery.

Don't KILL YourSelf!!!

"Suicide is not chosen; it happens when the pain exceeds the resources for coping with that pain".  This is a site for people who are ready willing and seriously able to commmit suicide Right Now!  It's in my Favorites list as "Read This First" and it's been really handy at times.   If you, or someone you know   are suicidal they can get some help here. Never be afraid to ask for help for yourself or a friend. For when you hurt so much you wanna die... been there, done that - No Fun! Note: If you live around the Seattle area you can call 206-461-3222 in Seattle and 1-800-244-5767 in King County and get someone live and in person right then.  They've helped keep me out of going to the hospital and have sent me there as well. They listen...

Fae-Folk

nwradfeys · Northwest Radical Faeries Message Board, Community Events (PNW mostly), etc.  So Who would wanna define a Radical Faerie?? Well, I'd be glad to, and since this is my responsibility to provide the Truth here, I'll try. Faeries are Faggots with a Difference! We Believe we're here to Have Fun! To be Delightful! And to be exquisetly conscious about how Everything is Alive, must be Respected and Appreciated and Gloried in its Interconnectedness. Our True Religion is our Sexuality, especially in the Forests - wildish & urbane. Our Work is to use our ability to Walk Between the genders, the worlds, the twilight times - all of them - and see and learn what is to learn, and to teach and share what is to be shared. Nice huh??

Free Books!!!

The Seattle Public Library Online: I've lived in libraries since I was a little little kid - I used to get sent there when I was with my grandma while mom was at work. I Loved it, I Love  Books!!! I think Libraries may be the single most Important "Institution" that humans have ever devised, and of course I include oral history and  libraries of the spoken word as well here. But this one here is a link to the BOOKS>.. ..I Am Sooo blessed to live 1 1/2 blocks from the only library in Seattle with a distinct gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender Section. Wow... So go here - go get a card and order online and they'll send you an email when it comes into your branch and you can live with it for weeks. Bliss....

Check Your Meds!

Drug/Drug and Drug/Food Interactions.  This is a page from an AIDS Awareness site that has this totally cool little "matching machine" - you plug in all your meds (All sorts - not just AIDS meds) and then it'll sort 'em out for you - telling you what might react with what - drugs and foods both. It's been a lifesaver for me when my Psychiatrist and my Doctor were Not communicating and killing me slowly... Really Useful for anybody on Meds - for a few weeks, or a lifetime.

AlternativeMentalHealth

Articles, testimonials, dietary plans, supplements – all sorts of things for folks with “mental illnesses” who wish to pursue a course of health based primarily on non-pharmaceutical means. Margot Kidder is the spokesperson and shares the diet she uses to control her bipolar disorder. Lotsa good stuff, lotsa bunk. You make the call, but they sure have the information as well as referals all over. A good resource.

Medscape Psychiatry

I subscribe to their e-newsletter weekly and, tho I’m not fully into Psychiatry and the drugs they give us – by a long ways – I’ve found tons of helpful information on this site to help me live with my bipolar syndrome, as well as a lot of other fascinating studies of how the mind works. I think it’s really useful. They also have sites for all the branches of medicine with corresponding newsletters and webpages.

Paw Sense

Catproof your computer. While this may sem like a whimsical site it's really valuable for cat lovers with  computers.  When cats walk or climb on your keyboard, they can enter random commands and data , and damage and even crash your computer. This can happen whether you are near the computer or have suddenly been called away from it. PawSense is a software utility that helps protect your computer from cats. It quickly detects and blocks cat typing, and also helps train your cat to stay off the computer keyboard.

Chaos Theory: A Brief Introduction

What exactly is chaos? The name "chaos theory" comes from the fact that the systems that the theory describes are apparently disordered, but chaos theory is really about finding the underlying order in apparently random data. This site is written by someone who actually understands Chaos Theory, unlike myself who just uses it to help understand the world. Check it out.

"This blog is primarily a means of bringing together specific articles and viewpoints that I've found helpful in understanding and moving through my own spiritual emergency."  This is not me (Steve) talking here, it's the creator of this amazing site.  Full of incredible links, I've put it here in part to remind myself to read more of it, since I seem to go thru my own versions of this on a regular basis.  Really useful if you're undergoing your own spritual emergency and not sure what's going on. Give it a try.

Seattle Fractals Digital Art

Fractal art prints and screensavers. Free fractal screensaver downloads! Lots of cool fractal designs and programs and amazing stuff… Nice little freebie fractal slideshow screensaver.

AlterNet is a project of the Independent Media Service, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting independent and alternative journalism. Lists links to articles from alternative press all over the world. It's a Really important way to get different perspective on the news than the shit we get fed here in the USofA.

Reclaiming

Reclaiming is a community of women and men working to unify spirit and politics, and oh so much more. Just go check 'em out. You'll be blown away... It was started by Starhawk and friends 20 some years ago in case that name rings a nice bell for ya.... They've been deeply involved in everything from anti-nuke work to anti-WTO here in Seattle and around the world. Starhawk has written extensively and extremely well - making complicated issues easier to understand. They do a lot of Civil Disobedience training and working. A tremendous resource for those who would change the world and keep spirit in politics - like Me!.

Tricycle

Online selections from the magazine, full of fascinating and absorbing thinking, debate and teachings towards developing a practice of Buddhism..

McMcan's

McMan's Depression and Bipolar Web. A great website with a lot of common sense info on Mental illness, specifically Bipolar and Unipolar Depression - as they call Manic Depression and Depression these days. Also has a wonderful weekly e-newsletter (free but please donate - it's well worth it) full of good stuff and links to current events in the world of mental health.

Romp

Romp Naked is an alternative nude gathering in Seattle for men to honor male erotic energy through art, music and dance. A simple title for a complex affair. If you read the history page you'll find I and some friends actually created this almost 14 years ago as a means for men to come together and have a safe space to be erotic (not sexual) and dance, have fun, socialize, and - hopefully - not worry about things like body image, cock size, fat bellies, graying hair, etc. They've been wildly successful with other folk taking them over after my "breakdown" in '95. I'm really proud of making this a reality. It's helped and just plain created a lot of fun for a lot of guys... sorta seasonal...

The TIMES

Yes this is The Times  - of London. I suppose those of us in the Colonies may be forgiven for stating that fact - but as such it is the Newspaper of Record for Millions around the world.   It is very informative, in a very mainstream, but thankfully and decidedly Not from the USA. Useful to read their perspectives.

Medicare

Official US Government site for People with Medicare. The place to go to find all the other sites you have to navigate if you want to find out anything about Medicare. Sigh. You'll need to know this at some point - and I sincerely hope for your sake that it's by age and not disability as it is for so many of us. But this is a good site to know about - just in case... and Good Luck with working it - it's almost like they train their workers to be rude and obstructive, but there are a few nice ones too...

RFD

A reader-written journal focused on queer country living and alternative lifestyles. Seen as the voice of the Radical Faerie community and beyond for over 2 1/2 decades RFD is a mixture af letters, homegrown recipes, useful homesteading articles, brothers behind bqrs networking, contact letters for country men, and others, to find one another, some good art, some bad. Some wonderful photos, erotic drawings and almost porn as well as ads for connections of all sorts. Unique.

Peace and Justice Events in the Seattle Area.

This is a reader created calendar arranged by month for politically oriented events in the greater Seattle area and beyond. You can add your own events or find out what's happening in your own areas of interest. A really great and totally comprehensive resource.

I'm not normally including commercial sites here but this place is so cool I just had to let you in on it. It's a store in Amish country full of products to live off the grid and get back to the land. I've personally ordered several things from them, and if you have any interest in doing things without electricity then I urge you to check it out. It's really fun just to browse and imagine a different world, without blow driers and cable tv. Amazing...!

Crucial Artz

This site is one created by a radical friend of mine whose thoughts travel far beyond  what most of us are capable of dreaming. It's a challenging site to read, and it's meant to be, but it's full of innate wisdom and great ideas and perspectives about how to "Art" yourself.   This page/site is meant as an introduction to a way to *articulate* one's heart and desires towards ways that seem more meaningful than those Mundania dishes us.
