About Me

Hello, my name is Weston Belcher and I live in Denton, TX.  I have been fishing since I was a child when my dad and grandpa would take me fishing at ponds and local lakes for bass, crappie and catfish.  My brother and I would often fish local creeks for bullheads, channel catfish, and perch.  Growing up, I also had numerous outings to reservoirs like Lake Texoma for blues and stripers and Waurika Lake for slabs.  But  since 1996 I've been focusing on crappie.  Why?  Because they taste so good! 

I became a crappie fanatic in my college days.  The university I attended was thirty minutes away from my father-in-law's lake cabin on Texoma.  I would meet him there every chance I got.  That's where he introduced me to back trolling and bottom bouncing for crappie.

Over the past several years I've been competing in various crappie tournaments with my buddy Duck Jerky to improve my crappie catching abilities by fishing against some of the best crappie fisherman in the country.

My primary style of fishing is slow vertical trolling over brush piles, timber, ledges, and other structure.  I use various combinations of jigs, minnows, and minnow tipped jigs for bait. 

I typically will fish spider rig style using up to four rods / person depending on conditions. On calm days, I slow troll out of the front of the boat and on windy days I will back troll and fish out of the side of the boat.  This method works well for experimenting with various rods and tackle setups.
