Hey, great job at the marathon, Amy. Bravo.
I haven't been doing so hot, but I have been maintaining. I didn't make my 3 pound goal by April. Dammit. But, I have been excercizing more. Did my sit-ups yesterday.
My eating hasn't been to hot, though, to be honest.

So this past saturday I did the Komen Race for the Cure in San Antonio....a 5K run/walk. It felt so good to complete the race (which I did in 45 minutes) and i think working out as much as i have has definately made a difference in terms of my stamina and all that. My weight (from two weeks ago has maintained and I've gained a total of 19lbs at the 5 mo. mark which, while being just a smidge more than I would like, is still better than I expected. I'm keeping up the schedule of working out at least 3 times a week and also made a very concerted effort at eating much, much better. I've included, in the past two weeks, a diet made up primarily of lean protein like chicken, eggs, and fresh raw vegetables. I think its really starting to pay off in terms of my energy levels though I've noticed a 'glow' in my skin that may also be attributed to that as well.
How are you all doing??

Wow! That's awsome Amy! My lifetime goal is to do a marathon and I'm really impressed :D I'm doing the Komen Race For the Cure this weekend and though I'm not running, I'm exciting about taking a step in that direction... (*chants "go amy, go amy...") Be sure to fill us in on the prep for the duathlon and how it goes.

I just ran a 10K on Sunday. Took me an hour and a half, but I did it, by golly. I'm doing a duathlon in a few weeks (2 mile run, 10 mile bike, 2 mile run). Like last year when I did it, I'm totally not in shape for it. But it's forcing me to work out a little more in anticipation, so I guess it's a good thing.

Well, I keep checking in here but I havent seen anyone post and I'm starting to wonder if anyone else is still around. :( Hopefully people will come back...
I've been doing pretty well with the pregnancy and keeping up going to the gym at least 3 times a week. Oh, there have been weeks where I have only gone once but I try not to beat myself up about it. I do try to walk alot in the office to at least keep from being completely sedentary.
I've made a more concious effort to eat better too. for about a month there was a period where i drank soda (though not in copious amounts), ate ice cream, and fast food. Nothing in excess mind you, but still. I paid the price for it by gaining more than the recommended amount per month. There is nothing i can do about that now, since dieting is just stupid when you're pregnant...but I am trying to get the recommended servings of protien, veggies, vitamin c, etc in a smarter way. I'm conciously eating more fresh veggies and cutting out fatty sweets entirely. If i get a craving for ice cream or any sweet i have fruit instead. I hope it pays off.
This week I'm probably going to be hitting the gym every day for about 30-40 minutes on the treadmill or crosstrainer as john is out of town on business and its a good way to fill up some time. My next ob appt is next monday so perhaps this better eating and working out will show some positive results by then!
ciao!

Remember the Jennifer Portnick, the woman who wanted to teach Jazzlite and was told she was too big? Well, she won her case.

I don't suppose you're willing to show the graph???
You know, I just got my Leslie Sansone "Walking Away the Pounds" tapes this week. I've been sick and dizzy so I haven't tried them, but I'm anxious to.

Stephanie: you're 100% right. My kids pediatrician said the same thing, basically. He said to give them juice w/ vitamin C (orange) to help their body absorb the vitamins in oatmeal, cerials...great point!!
Jazzersize: Okay, my opinion on that is that excersize really is not primarilly for weight-loss. It is a way to help keep our body fit and healthy. I almost look at instructors in the opposite light. If I walk into a weight loss facility, I want to see people that haven't been thin their entire life. People that know what it's like to have a little pudge on them.
I'm a firm believer in the idea that thin does not equal healthy. There are tons of thin people out there that are way worse off than my fat ass, health-wise. Obviously being 400 pounds is not healthy, but a 170 pound lady can be just as healthy as any one else. Are blondes more healthy than brunettes? Silly question, but I think that the difference between 170 pounds and 112 is the same as hair color. Our bodies are all different. We are born to be a certain size, chunky or thin. There are extremes to both that are unhealthy, but the fat=out-of-shape myth has gone too far.
I hope she wins the case. Just because she does not physically fit up to their ideas of beauty (and that's what this all boils down to) doesn't mean she can't instruct an exercize class for crissake. You don't have to be a pschitzo to counsel pschitzo's, ya know?
