Now that I've stopped hyperventilating about the election somewhat, perhaps it's time to turn our attention to more mundane
subjects. To start, the sorry state of broadcast radio. I've got pretty eclectic tastes in music and there's nothing that
annoys me more than the current spate of stations that repeatedly hammer out the songs that some generation or other grew
up on and never, unfortunately, outgrew.
Well, I've finally found relief. A station that I can listen to all day and be, by turns, amused, challenged and delighted.
The answer, my friend is blowing in the Internet (sorry). Internet radio, to be exact. And the station is called
Radio Paradise.
To my mind, it's everything a radio station should be. An incredible and ever-changing playlist that ranges from Billie
Holiday and Louis Armstrong to Radiohead and Wilco, and everything in between. User forums to discuss the music. Links to
the
All Music Guide (if you want more info on a group), and Amazon and iTunes (if you've just got to have it). You can even suggest your own
additions to the playlist by uploading songs for consideration (mp3 - encoded at 192kbps or higher). Did I mention it's listener-supported
and commercial-free?
Well, I seem to be hyperventilating again, but this time, under happier circumstances. Give a listen.
