Work in film production includes that of director, editor, writer, cinematographer, actor, gaffer, sound recordist and grip. Education in the crafts of film making were gained by serving apprenticeships in Hollywood, by working in assistant positions and other on-the-job experiences.
Related experience includes producing independent films, building and installing projection equipment, working as a film laboratory engineer and as a union projectionist for both 35 and 70mm theaters. Scholastic experience includes teaching cinema seminars at the San Francisco Art Institute, and acting as advisor on numerous student films. Further film work consists of shooting and editing films for other filmmakers, and writing both short and feature length screenplays.
Training in acting began at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, concurrent with teaching a children's improvisational theater workshop, and was further developed at the Bennes Marden School of Acting in Hollywood, and Ann Macey's in San Francisco.
PERSONAL:
Born June 29, 1944 in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in nearby Hubbard. Moved to Cincinnati in July of 1962, and in January of 1966 moved to Hollywood, California. Moved to Berkeley in October of 1972 and currently lives in the city of San Francisco.
EDUCATION:
Received high school diploma from Hubbard High School. Studied acting and participated in a film making club in Cincinnati. Took liberal arts classes at UCLA towards a film degree, but resorted to on-the-job experience and apprenticeships in the Hollywood film industry. Attended Eastman Kodak seminars in film production and post production. Studied acting at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and participated in acting workshops with Bennes Marden in Hollywood and Anne Macey in San Francisco.
Taught fourteen week in-depth seminar on motion picture sound at the San Francisco Art Institute.

EARLY HOLLYWOOD EXPERIENCE:
Worked as grip and assistant editor at N. Lee Lacy Productions on television commercials for such clients as TransWorld Airlines and Roman Meal Bread.
Photographed "Blue Laws, Funny Laws" a syndicated television series by Grady Terry Productions. Assistant editor, sound designer and cinematographer for Pat Rocco Productions. Other freelance experience in all areas of production including sound recording for an educational series for the Small Business Administration. Performed final sound mixes and magnetic transfers for numerous films at Scott Sound Services.
FIRST FILM:
Wrote, directed and edited "The C.O.", a 16mm short shown in 6 Metromedia stations and 12 Los Angeles theaters.

Photographed "A History of San Francisco FM Radio" produced and directed by Rick Mackota. Photographed and edited "The Sacred Art of Tibet" for the Nyingmapa Institute in Berkeley. Photographed and edited "Slotin", a 16mm docudrama by Mike Kurtz. Edited and conformed negatives on educational films by Pyramid Films such as "Motorcycle Safety" and time compressed historical bits an the Rowan and Martin TV show. Photographed, and edited, and created animated graphics for the "Metrics" trio of educational films released by Paramount's Oxford Films.

Directed "The Tibetan Resettlement Project", a public service announcement for The Friends of Tibet. Photographed "Driving Me Away" by Lawrence Preston, a music video directed by Zach Bell. "Oh Mamacita" for Forte Films by Shelley Streeter, winner of the '98 country music vocalist of the rear award. Directed a promotional video for cable music TV five rears before MTV, produced by Continuum. Edited and photographed numerous sponsored news items for Gordon News Films. Directed TV ads for Rochester Big and Tall and Erwin Home Equity. Interviewed Ray Harryhausen, Dennis Muen, Ken Ralston, Hoyt Yeatman, et alia for a United Airlines in-light film sponsored by Silicon Graphics.

Photographed title sequence, recorded dialogue, and acted as editorial consultant for "The Lift", a comedy short film, directed by Mala Malabashian. Wrote and directed "I John the Beloved", a 16mm short. Shot Fog for Lisa McElroy, and Frolic for Jennifer Kantner.

Mastered the art of recording optical sound track negatives for film release prints at Leo Diner Films in San Francisco. Worked as the film engineer in processing, printing, quality control, print timing, and technical advisor at Monaco Films and Video also in San Francisco.
