Fourth Generation in
Families of the Children
of Jane3 Washburn and William Orcutt
It appears that Jane Washburn had only
two children, and second daughter Elisabeth had only one daughter, so Jane
leaves fewer descendants than most of the branches. The rest of the children of
William Orcutt were by his second wife, Hannah Smith, however several of those
married back into the Washburn family. Because Jane was a daughter her
descendants will not be carried forward further than this file, but two of
William Orcutt’s daughters by his second wife who married Washburns will be
carried forward in the fifth generation.

Mary Turner was Joseph Edson’s second wife, and they were married on 2 Nov. 1686 in Bridgewater, which means that Benjamin Edson must have been born in 1687 or later to have been a son of Mary Turner.

[4] Mitchell, Nahum, History of the Early Settlement of Bridgewater, in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, Boston, 1840, reprint, Heritage Books, Bowie, MD, 1983, [hereinafter Mitchell, History of Bridgewater], p. 151. Susanna Orcutt, wife of Samuel Edson, was, I assume, a sister of William Orcutt (Jr.), father of Joanna Orcutt, but Mitchell is not clear on that point. If so, Benjamin Edson would have been a first cousin once removed of Joanna Orcutt.
[6] Plymouth Co. Probate Docket #7101, Vol. 15, p. 25-26, the abstract from MF5G: Cooke, p. 276. Wood, in his abstract in MF5G: Cooke, p. 276, is uncertain about the year of the will, whether it was written in 1753 or 1758. It must have been written in 1753, since both daughters Joanna and Abigail were listed with their maiden surnames in the will, and both were married by 1758. It also proves, since son Peter was not named in the will, that Peter’s death must have been before 1753, not in 1756, as listed in the Brockton VRs.
[7] Mitchell, History of Bridgewater, p. 152, says they had Benjamin 1715, Nathan 1718, Peter 1720, Jacob 1722, William 1724, Seth 1726, Ichabod 1728, Ebenezer 1730, Joanna 1733, and Abigail 1736.

[55] Brockton VRs, p. 326, which gives the date of his death as 1756, buried in Main Street Cemetery, North Bridgewater (Brockton).
