Rescue In The Sulu Sea

While hostilities wound down, the threats of the sea persisted.

-In October of 1945, the Gillette received an urgent call from the USS Thomas (DE-420), standing by the YMS-340 (Motor Minesweeper) which ran hard aground on Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea.

The Photos were taken by crewmen of 'The Fighting Blade' wading knee deep in the water of the South Pacific near the Tubbataha reef.

If that's not "hard aground" I don't know what is!

Once the rescue was completed, the Gillette escorted the YMS-340 and Navy Tug Vireo to Manila.
