Services for Elsie Gladys Simmons, 95, Winterset, who died Sept. 13 at the Bethesda Care Center where she resided, were held Fridday, Sept. 16, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Knoll and the Rev. Leonard Leslie officating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery. Born in Madison County on Feb. 16, 1893, she was the daughter of Mactier "Mack" and Alice Foster Robinson. She married "John" Irvin Simmonds on Nov. 5, 1922 in Winterset. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and, in her early years, a nurse. A lifetime resident of Madison County, she was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, a graduate of a nursing school in Nevada, Iowa, and a member of the Dorcas Society and the World War I Veterans Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter, Miriam Howell and husband Nelson of Winterset; a sister, Catherine Hiatt and husband Clifton of Canon City, Colo.; a grandson, David Howell and wife Robin; and a great-grandson, Chris Howell. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He was a lifetime resident of Winterset, a member of the First Baptist Church, a past secretary of the Lions Club, a church clerk and deacon and a past president of a local day care board. Survivors include his wife; parents; sons, Christopher, Jeffery and Jason; and brothers, Jerry and Dan; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Steddom, all of Winterset.
