NEWSPAPER: The Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa, December 19, 1973: "Hold Arnold Coghlan Rites, Arnold E. Coghlan, a lifetime resident of Madison County and former mayor of Peru, died at Madison Manor North in Winterset last Tuesday, December 11, at the age of 82. Mr. Coghlan was born on October 11, 1891 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the son of G. M. and Mary Sanders Coghlan. He was married in Peru on October 1, 1913 to Frona Lilley. He devoted his lifetime to work on the Chicago and North Western Railroad, as well as to farming, and spent 15 years as mayor of the town of Peru. He was affiliated with the Peru Methodist Church. Survivors include five sons: Maurice, Marion and Edgar, all of Winterset; Lowell of Junction City, Kansas; and Curtis of Creston, Iowa; and one daughter; Mrs. Rosemary E. Adams of Ames, Iowa. Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive, as well as a sister, Mrs. Francis Ferguson of Frederick, Colorado. Mr. Coghlan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one sister, and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 1973 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield presiding. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery."

Coghlan, 70, Winterset, who died March 2 at his residence were held Friday, March 4, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clarence Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery with military graveside services provided by VFW Post No. 8142. Born Jan. 10, 1918 at Peru, he was the son of Arnold and Frona Lilly Coghlan. He was a lifetime resident of Madison County and married Christine Bennett on Jan. 30, 1943 at Yakima, Wash. Mr. Coghlan who was retired from the Martin-Marietta Quarry, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a World War II army veteran and a member of the local VFW post.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry of Altoona; brothers, Curtis of Creston and Lowell of Junction City, Kan.; a sister, Rosemary Adams of Ames; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Jim and Rose Seiferd, who raised him since age 11; two brothers and an infant sister."

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include a son, Terry Coghlan and wife Jill of Altoona; a brother, Herman Bennett of LaGrange, Ga.; sisters, Alice O'Neal and Precious Gladney, both of LaGrange and Kathryn Vickers of Lanett, Ala.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, a brother and two sisters."

Coghlan of Winterset died at Madison county Memorial hospital here Sunday, Sept. 29, at the age of 38 years. She was a life-time resident of the Winterset community. Mrs. Coghlan was the former Emily Elizabeth Benge, daughter of Harlan and Mabel Allen Benge. She was born in Madison county Aug. 28, 1925. She was married Dec. 14, 1946 to Edgar R. Coghlan. She was a member of the Methodist church. Mrs. Coghlan is survived by her husband; four daughters at home, Linda, Lana, Reta and Loretta; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Benge of Winterset, and her grandmother, Mrs. Perry Benge of Winterset. She also leaves 11 brothers and sisters: Herb Benge, Mrs. Ethel Berry, Harry, Mary, William and Delbert Benge, all of Winterset; Mrs. Ilene Long of Marshalltwon, Mrs. Shirley Lewis and Eleanor Benge of Lewis; and Mrs. Gloria Stanley and Mrs. Vicki Phillips of Des Moines. Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home conducted by the Rev. Walter Samp of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery."
