OBIT: DeWitt, Mrs. John, Again the pale messenger of death has visited our quiet little village, this time stopping at the home of Mother Maskel, on Feb 27, and carried her over the stormy river but she was ready and is now safely housed in the blessed home of all God's people in Heaven, thus those who are left to sorrow and mourn, sorrow not without hope for their loss in her everlasting gain. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1817 and was married to John DeWitt in 1836; to them were born thirteen children, six of whom are in the sweet bye and bye; in 1864 her husband left her to struggle through life alone but now all is over and she is at rest with the part of her family gone before. Peace be to her silent dust. Funeral services were held at her late residence conducted by the writer. J. H. Creger

NEWSPAPER: The Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa, Friday, March 1, 1895, p.3: "Mrs. Olive Maschal was taken seriously sick last Friday night, and is very low at present writing."

NEWSPAPER: The Winterset Madisonian, Winterset, Iowa, Friday, March 15, 1895, p.6: "FROM PERU. Death has claimed another of the old residents of this place. Mrs. Olive Maschal, after an illness of but a few days, died February 28th. Funeral took place from her residence March 1st. The sorrowing children have the sympathy of the community."

OBIT: March 1901 Rev. William Capp Smith was born in Jacksonville, Ill., April 7, 1854, and died at his home near Chase, Kansas, March 3, 1901. He moved to Madison County, Iowa, in childhood. He was converted in youth and united with the Church, of which he was a consistent member until his death. He was married to Miss Carrie De Witt, of Peru, Iowa April 19, 1852. To them were born eight children, seven of whom are living. Bro. Smith was licensed to preach in 1883. He served acceptably the following charges in Iowa and Kansas; St. Charles, Lorimor, East Peru, Winterset Circuit, Jamison and Alden. The Lord blessed his labors in the ministry to the edification of believers and the salvation of hundreds of souls. He moved with his family to Chase, Kansas, in 1897, where they have since resided. Bro. Smith had not been well for some months, but the final attack was of comparatively short duration—about three weeks. The funeral services were conducted by the writer in the church at Chase, Kansas, March 4, 1901. W. R. Weaver.
