A farmer, Mr. Baker was a resident of the area for 43 years and was a member of Royal Neighbors of America. On Dec. 15, 1937, he was married to Hazel B. Emerson in Missouri. Survivors include his wife; a brother, Floyd Baker of Norwalk and a sister, Lucille Baker of Booneville. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and a sister.

OBIT: Loyal Emerson Dies at Age 76
Funeral services for Loyal W. Emerson, a retired Madison county farmer, were held last Friday, January 5, a 1:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Mr. Emerson was 76 years of age. Officiating at the funeral was the Rev. John R. Rhoads of Des Moines. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery. Loyal Wellington Emerson, son of James and Lydia Miller Emerson was born April 7, 1896 in Madison County. He died January 2 at Horton's Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was united in marriage to Faye Robinson on July 7, 1917 in La Cross, Kansas. They made their home on a farm in Madison County until 1956 when they retired and moved to Winterset. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his wife and six children, Harold Emerson of Golden, Colorado, Mrs. Donna Duff of Des Moines, Clarence Emerson of Winterset, Evelyn Sliker of California, Mrs. Wanda Trease of Newton, Robert Emerson of Des Moines; and one sister, Mrs. Berdie Shearer of Peru. He also leaves nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

On July 20, 1920 he was married to Cepha Leona Kirsch at Winterset. Mr. Emerson was a farmer, and lived most of his life in Madison county. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset. Surviving are his wife, one son, Paul D. Emerson of Iowa City; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Hildebrand of Martensdale, Mrs. Rose Ann McNeer of Newton, Mrs. Carrol Warhola of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Marjorie Singer of Martensdale; 16 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Simmons of Winterset and Mrs. Birdie Shearer of Peru; and two brothers, Arnie and Loyal Emerson of Winterset. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Grace Marie, who died in infancy. Officiating at the requiem high mass Monday morning was Msgr. John W. Higgins. Dean Emerson of Woodland Park, Colo., died Sunday, April 16, at Memorial hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was 49 years of age. Mr. Emerson was a native of Madison county and spent his life here until 1964, when he moved to Colorado. He was born Aug. 24, 1922, a son of Gale and Marie Frederickson Emerson. He was married Nov. 10, 1943, to Marjorie Anderson, at Bethany, Mo. They engaged in farming here until moving to Colorado. In that state he worked as a salesman, and later was employed by the El Paso county election department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Emerson was a member of the Peru Methodist church. In addition to his wife; he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Larry Gordon of Winterset and Ann Emerson at home; a son, Scott Emerson at home; a granddaughter, Shawn Gordon; and a sister, Mrs. Bill See of Peru. Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 3 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset. Burial was to be made in the Peru cemetery."
