OBIT: Eugene Beverlin, Published: Saturday, March 27, 2004 2:00 AM CST, Eugene Beverlin, age 77, of Yankton, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Yankton with Dr. Jack Smith officiating. Military honors will be provided by Ernest-Bowyer VFW Post No. 791. Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home, Yankton, is in charge of the arrangements. Gene was born April 6, 1926, in Aliza, Illinois, to Millard and Minnie (Cozad) Beverlin. He grew up in Muscatine, Iowa, where he joined the Army on May 23, 1944 and was discharged on March 6, 1947. Most of his army time was spent in Germany. On January 17, 1954, he married Lois Roberts; they lived in Oregon where he worked in the logging industry. After going to transmission school in Kansas City, Missouri, he worked as a mechanic for 13 years. He and his wife then managed motels for 27 years before retiring and moving to Yankton. He is survived by his wife Lois; daughter, Debra Havrilek; granddaughters: Kasandra Alder and Allison Havrilek; and great-grandson, Jordan Alder, all of Yankton; son, Wayne of Huston, Texas; sons Jerry and Mike, and daughter Tammy, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His parents, seven brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Wayne N. ``Sparky'' Beverlin, 81, rural Illinois City, formerly of New Boston, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial is in Eliza Creek Cemetery, with military honors conducted. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today. A memorial fund has been established.
He was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Mercer County, to Samuel and Caroline Noble Beverlin. He married Alma Smith Feb. 2, 1946, in Muscatine. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Merry and Don Cantrell, rural Illinois City; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

ELIZA, Ill. - Alma Jane Beverlin, 79, Eliza, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, from an extended illness. The Rev. Ted Landers will officiate the services. Casket bearers are Tom A. Watson, David Frieden Sr., Larry Brown Jr., Gary Brown Sr., Don Brown and Jonathan Koehler. Mrs. Beverlin was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Lowpoint, Ill., the daughter of Harry A. and Gertrude E. Dimmick Smith. She married Wayne N. "Sparky" Beverlin Feb. 2, 1946. She was a member of the Eliza Lions Club and Providence Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and loved to crotchet and do word search puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Merry Cantrell and husband Don of Illinois City, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jeramy Cantrell and wife Jamie of Illinois City, Kelly Cantrell and wife Kelly of Decatur, Ill., Todd Cantrell and wife Pam of Muscatine and D. Brian Cantrell and wife Melissa of Vermont; a brother, Herman S. Smith and wife Edna of Muscatine; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Evelyn.
