Life-Long Resident of This County Was 71 Years of Age.
Mrs. Nellie Simmons of Winterset died Friday, Oct. 11, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 71 years of age. Mrs. Simmons was a life-long resident of Madison county. She was the former Nellie F. Emerson, daughter of James and Eliza Miller Emerson, and was born in this county Dec. 11, 1891. She was married to George R. Simmons on June 30, 1909. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1951. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Audrey Wilson of Santa Ana, Calif.; two sons, Claude Simmons of Winterset and Paul Simmons of Des Moines; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Arnie and Loyd Emerson of Winterset; and a sister, Mrs. Claude Shearer of Peru. Funeral services were held Monday from Grace Baptist church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Earl Travis. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
