A wedding of interest to the many friends of the parties was that of Miss Rose Clark and Jacob Jaekels which was solemnized Tuesday, February 18 at the Catholic parsonage when Rev. Father Agatho pronounced the words which made them man and wife, the witnesses being brother and sister of the groom, Miss Teresa and Frank Jaekels. The bride wore a handsome brown voile suite with hat, gloves and shoes to match. She is the sister of Mrs. C. J. O'Connor and the groom is clerk at that popular hotel, where they will make their home for the present. The bride is held in the highest esteem by patrons of the O'Connor and has long been one of the important people of Mr. O'Connor's hotel enterprises. She has an engaging personality which makes friends everywhere. The groom has been a very popular clerk at the O'Connor.

OBIT: Rose Belle Clark was born in Madison County, East Peru, Ia. November 12, 1874 and passed away at her home in Cambridge, Iowa May 31, 1925 at the age of 50 years, 6 months and 19 days. She is survived by her husband, three children, Frederick, Dallas and Johanna and her mother and two sisters. She was married February 18, 1907 at Boulder, Colorado to J. F. Jaekels. Funeral services were held at the house Tuesday, June 2nd. C. W. Elrod of Des Moines Class of the International Bible Students Association delivered a beautiful sermon. Burial was made in the Cambridge cemetery.

When yet a child of about 5 years he came with his parents to Madison county, settling on a farm south east of Peru. On January 25, 1883, he was united in marriage to Mary McGuire. To this union two children were born. Zella May Davis of Helena, Montana; and Sylvester S. Clifton of Peru, both of whom survive. Mrs. Clifton preceded her husband in death, departing October 1, 1900. December 20, 1903 Mr. Clifton was again united in marriage to Julia A. DeLong who survives and mourns his death. Besides the wife, son and daughter, Mr. Clifton is survived by one brother, Charley of Osceola, Iowa; and three sisters, Mrs. M. C. Mease, Truro; Mrs. J. H. Millard, Harvey; Mrs. J. F. Deardorff, Peru; together with a large number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, August 14, at the home and the Peru church by the Reverand Edwin H. Sands. Interment was in the Ebenezer cemetery."

Mrs. Clifton was the former Julia Alice Powell. She was born at Chillicothe, Ill. on Oct. 2, 1863. She was married to Lyman DeLong on March 18, 1886. They were parents of three children, of which one son, Oran, preceded her in death. The husband and father died on May 22, 1894. Later she was married to James Clifton, who also preceded her in death. She had become a member of the Methodist church in youth. Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Floda Emerson of Winterset; a son, Lawrence DeLong of Lorimor, a brother Melvin Powell of Laporte, Minn.; two stepchildren, Sylvester Clifton of Peru and Mrs. Zella Davis of Helena, Mont.; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery."

Her death came at the end of an illness of five weeks duration. She was united in marriage to Oran Powell, Dec. 25, 1862. He preceded her in death 15 years ago. To their union were born nine children, six of whom are living, three passing away in early life. She leaves to mourn her loss, Mrs. James Clifton of Peru, William Powell of Lorimor, Mrs. Frank Creger of Ogden, Samuel Powell of Winterset, Mrs. Wheatley Harper of Barney, and Melvin Powell of Laporte, Minn.; 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She united with the Methodist church in early life and has lived a Christian ever since. She was a loving wife, a kind mother and a friend to all who knew her. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Peru, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton of Winterset, assisted by Rev L. M. Kirby of Peru. Interment was in the Peru cemetery."

Burial was at the Peru cemetery. Born in Pottawattamie County on Dec. 19, 1892, he was the son of Lyman and Julia Pawell [sic] DeLong. He was a farmer and worked in pipeline construction. On Sept. 9, 1914, he married Alverda E. Hougue [sic]. Mr. DeLong lived all his life in Madison County. Survivors include daughters, Gwendolyn Hope and Geneva Addy, both of Winterset; a grandson, six great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three grandchildren, a brother and a sister."

Emerson, Peru Pioneer is Dead -- Member of One of Earliest Families Settling in Walnut Township -- The death of J.S. Emerson at his home in Peru early Friday morning ended the career of a man prominently identified with Madison county for nearly 81 years. Mr. Emerson was the son of James and Mary Ann Emerson, one of the first families settling in Walnut township. He was born November 27, 1855, on the farm which his father homesteaded, and which he owned at the time of his death. His entire life was spent in Madison county, with the exception of a few months in Kansas. Early in life he united with the Christian church. He became one of the most extensive land owners in the county, at the time of his death owning more than 700 acres of land in Scott and Walnut townships. He was active and successful in business affairs, being one of the organizers, in 1899, of the Peru Savings bank. He was married to Sarah Augusta Lilley on June 19, 1881. They were the parents of four children: a son Alonzo, who died in infancy; and Ralph, Earl, and Ethel, all living in Madison county. Following the death of the first wife, he was married to Dulcie Weeks, on August 13, 1895. To this union a son was born, Gale Emerson. Mr. Emerson is survived by his widow, the four children, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and three sisters. Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset, Sunday in charge of Rev H.L. Olmstead of the Church of Christ. Burial was made at the Peru cemetery."

EMERSON Died Here Sunday, Mrs. Dulcie Emerson, for 40 years a resident of Peru, died at the Peterson Nursing home in Winterset Sunday, March 30, at the age of 73 years. Mrs. Emerson was a life-long resident of Madison county. She was the former Dulcie Isobell Weeks, daughter of James and Mary Ann Weeks, and was born near Winterset, Jan. 1, 1874. She was married to J. S. Emerson on Aug. 13, 1895. The first 10 years of their married life was spent on a farm in Scott township, after which they moved to Peru. Mr. Emerson died 11 years ago. She is survived by a son, Gale Emerson of Winterset; three step-children, Ralph Emerson of Newton, Earl Emerson of Winterset and Mrs. Grover Mease of Peru; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Jickling of Winterset, Mrs. George Wimmer of Bozeman, Mont., Mrs. Ollie Bolton of Ainsworth, Nebr., and Mrs. Zoa Rippey of Des Moines. Funeral services were held here Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. J. D Stevens, pastor of the Peru Methodist church. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
