Funeral services will be Fri., Dec. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The Rev. A.W. Phillips will officiate and burial will be at the Peru Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 184 in Winterset. Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. He was born July 12, 1920 in Spencer to A.O. and Ethel (Pierce) Cobbs. He attended North High School, Kemper Military Academy, and the University of Iowa. He married Carol Ann Beverlin Rood on July 29, 1979. He was vice president of Adm. of Bob Allen Companies and prior to that in partnership with Cobbs Manufacturing Business. He was a retired Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force during World War II and was active in the Reserves for several years. He was a past member of the Wakonda and the Des Moines Club and a member of the Wakonda Christian Church in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving relatives include his wife of Truro; two daughters, Cynthia L. Meadows and husband John of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kelsey C. Taylor and husband Ray of Palm Springs, Calif.; two stepsons, James Rodney Rood and wife Louise of Puyallup, Wash. and Randall Craig Rood and fiancee Cassie of Lacona; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Rae Phillips and husband Denny of Des Moines, one sister, Darrelene Sarcone of Waukee; one grandson; and ten step-grandchildren.

He was 69 years of age, and had been an invalid the past eight years. Mr. Emerson was born in Peru on Oct. 1, 1885, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Emerson. His active life was spent in farming largely in Scott township, with the exception of two years spent in North Dakota. He was married Feb. 15, 1905 to Floda Delong. They were the parents of three children, one of whom died in infancy. Mr. Emerson was active in the affairs of his community over a long period of years. He was a member of the Peru Methodist church, and the Masonic lodge in this community. Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Irene Beverlin of Peru; a son, Rex Emerson of Peru; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Mease of Peru; and two brothers Ralph Emerson of Newton, and Gale Emerson of Winterset. Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home here, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Peru cemetery."

Zona Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery. Born at Peru Jan. 27, 1887, she was the daughter of Lyman and Julia Powell DeLong. She was a resident of the area most of her life and was a member of the Peru Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. On Feb. 15, 1905 she was married to Earl Emerson at Peru. Survivors include a son, Lyman Rex Emerson of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Beverlin of Peru; a brother, Lawrence DeLong of Winterset; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, an infant son and a brother.

A committal service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, at the Penn Center Cemetery west of Earlham. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Duane Queen officiating. The family will gather in Fellowship Hall to greet friends and family immediately following the services. Max Beverlin was born July 29, 1926, to C.J. and Estina (Lorimor) Beverlin of Peru. His marriage to Dorothy Crawford took place Sept. 1, 1946, at the Church of Christ in Winterset. Max had been a real estate broker and a general manager of his son's film equipment rental company. In 1986, he moved to central Florida from Fort Dodge. He was a member of the Fort Dodge Presbyterian Church (elder), Presbyterian Church of the Lakes in Orlando, Fla., Lions Club (past president), Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge (50 years). He was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Orlando, Fla.; his father, C.J. Beverlin of Winterset; two daughters, Denise Kern of San Antonio, Texas, and Debra Armstrong of Winter Garden, Fla.; a son, Robert Beverlin of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Jack Beverlin of Herscher, Ill., and six grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be directed to the AmSouth Bank's Memorial Account. These funds will be used to send a deserving underprivileged youth to baseball camp, as well as founding a project to remodel kitchen facilities at the Presbyterian Church of the Lakes in Orlando. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare of Winterset."
