Three bulls were such great friends that they always grazed together in the same field. A lion had watched them for many days with longing in his eyes in the hope of seizing them for his prize, but he found that there was little chance so long as they all kept together. Therefore, he secretly began to spread evil and slanderous rumors pitting one against the other until he had fomented jealousy and distrust among them. No sooner did the lion see that they avoided one another and grazed separately than he attacked them one by one and made an easy prey of them all.
United we stand, divided we fall.
[It occurs to me that there is more to be gleened from this fable than "United we stand, divided we fall". The three bulls probably weren't aware of their adversary, the lion, or else they would have vanquished it, or at least not let themselves be separated. The lion recongnized the strength of the bulls in union which strength the bulls did not consider, perhaps because they had never known anything different. So the lion went about changing the bulls habits through sowing discord, whereby the bulls lost the strength they didn't know they had and didn't know they needed. What strengths does our society have of which we are not aware? Why would anyone try to change our societal habits and values? Is a lion separating us from our strengths waiting for a chance to take us as its prey?]
Romans 16:17 ¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
18* For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.
20* And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
