RULES
We will be racing under the ISAF 2005 - 2008 RACING RULES OF SAILING and the CR 914 class Rules ammended as follows. LOCAL RULES (ISAF RULE CHANGES FOR THE YACHT CLUB'S LOCAL RACING) There will be no penalty for hitting course marks, just go around the right way (ISAF Rules 31.1 & 31.2), The 360 penalty turn will still apply to the start and finish marks, The time limit to register a protest with the Race Committee is reduced to within one minute of the finish of the race (Rule E6.3) Sail markings need only include the boat number in any size. Additional identifying markings are permitted (914 Class Rules 13.12 thru 13.14) Tactial or strategic advice can be shared when racing, and is encouraged with those learning (Rule E5.2(c)) REAFFIRMING ISAF RULE 44.2 When a boat takes a penalty at or near the finish line, she shall return completely to the course side of the line before finishing (ISAF Rule 44.2). Even though she may have crossed the finish line, she is not considered to be finished until she crosses the finish line again after the penalty turn is taken. SCHEDULE The first race is scheduled to start at the time listed in the schedule. Be there early enough not to miss the first race. Race days that are abandoned for any reason, bad weather, high water, etc., will not be rescheduled. Races where only one boat shows up will be abandoned. Two or more boats may be raced and be scored. RACE COMMITTEE ITEMS The two minute tape will be started when the last boat finishes. Only the race committee may call "finishes" and "over earlys". One or two boats over early on a start will be each individually hailed as an "individual recall". (Rule 29.2) At the start signal, a boat over early (OCS) shall return, without rights, completely behind the line to restart. She need not round the ends of the line (Rule 29.1) At the Race Committee's discretion, when more than two boats are over early, the Race Committee should signal a "General Recall" (Rule 29.3) and the race will be restarted. In a big fleet, and when starters get aggressive, many boats can be pushed past the start line early, so Race Committees usually call a General Recall when more than two boats are over early. On "general recall" restarts, any boat on the course side of the starting line, or it's extensions, during the one minute before the start signal, must return around the ends of the start line before starting. No dip starts. This is referred to as the "one minute rule" (Rule 30.1). The one minute rule is in effect on "general recall" restarts. The Race Committee, also at it's discretion, may declare the "one minute rule" to be in effect at any time, particularly when the starters are aggressive, or the fleets are large. An early starter (OCS) who fails to restart, or a Rule 30.1 infringement that fails to restart properly, is scored DSQ without a protest (Rules 29.1, 64.1(a) & A1.1)). The "preparatory" signal, one minute to start, is the beginning of the race where all rules apply. Prior to the preparatory signal, the right of way rules still apply, but there is no provision for penalty turns. Just say excuse me and go on. Before the one minute preparatory signal, a boat may request a five minute repair delay. Each boat is permitted one repair delay each day, and only one repair delay is permitted each race. The race course will be set and can be modified or shortened at anytime by the Race Committee. The Race Committee may abandon a race at their discretion. The Race Committee, at their discretion, may terminate a race and award positions, provided at least one boat has finished. VISUAL WIND VELOCITY REFERENCE (About 10 mph is where CR 914s begin to submarine when they get to going too fast)
