RACE FORMAT

We will try to start the races start at the time listed in the schedule. Plan to be there early enough not to miss the first start. We will score the first ten races, but will cut the number of races short if the time begins to exceed two hours. Regattas for this year will be in the same two hour format with trophys at the end of racing. All races and regattas are open to visitors and guests.

"B" FLEET

We have an "A" fleet and a "B" fleet. All boats race together, but are scored as separate fleets. We will start new sailors out in "B" Fleet unless they prefer "A" Fleet. The "B" fleet awards are identical to the "A" fleet awards and are without a "B" fleet designation. After winning a "B" Fleet trophy (Series, Regatta, etc.), the "B" fleeter moves up to "A" fleet.

HANDICAPPING

This year We will use a handicap system for all boats that allows 30 second, 20 second and 10 second head starts. At the beginning of the year, all skippers will be assigned a handicap based on previous performance. Newcomers during the year will be assigned a 30 second handicap. Each time the skipper wins a trophy during the year, the assigned handicap will be reduced by 10 seconds, until the handicap eventually becomes zero. The handicap will carry over from event to event for the entire year. Handicap records will be kept on the face of the race committee folder. All are encouraged to keep the handicappers honest by looking at the handicap records during the raceday.

TROPHYS

The current trophy arrangement is a trophy pictured on the TYC Results page that has room for eight or more placeplates. The winners of each event will be awarded placeplates. We will either start a pool at the beginning of the year to cover the cost, or an individual will buy trophys and placeplates and get reimbursed by the winners as they are awarded.

NUMBER OF TROPHYS

We are using the 3-5-8 and over system to award first, second, and third place trophys. The 3-5-8 refers to the number of boats that sailed in a regatta, or in the case of series racing, the number of boats that started in half or more of the total races in a series. Starting in half or more of the races in a series "qualifies" the skipper for trophy consideration.

For SERIES events, with 3 boats QUALIFIED, one first place is awarded. With 5 boats qualified, first and second places are awarded. Eight boats and over get first, second and third place awards. To QUALIFY means, a skipper must have started 50% of the series races. Race Committee duty counts as starting those races.

For REGATTA events, 3 ENTRIES - first place only, 5 entries - first and second, 8 entries and over - first, second and third. An ENTRY means the skipper starts one of the races.

At the end of the year, the Club Champion trophy will be awarded to the top finisher in the Fall Regatta. Only a skipper that has qualified in at least one of the year's Series', or has entered one of the year's Regattas may win the championship.

There is no entry fee for Regattas or Series racing and there are no dues for the club. All winners that elect to receive trophys, will have to reimburse for the cost of their trophy, or elect to receive just an "atta boy". Our cost to date for a trophy base has been $15, and $2 for engraved placeplates. The trophy base will hold 8 or more placeplates.

Each fleet, "A" and "B", will have to pass 3-5-8 test to determine the number of trophys awarded. That is, less than three, no trophy award. When "B" fleet gets down below three, they will be combined with "A" fleet for trophy purposes.

RACE SCORING

Races will be scored by the ISAF low point system with 3/4 point for first places. There will be no throwouts. DNS, DNF and DSQ are scored as one place more than the number of boats entered for one day events, or one place more than the number of boats racing that day for series events. The no throwout rule will favor the novice that shows up for all the races.

Points are awarded to the skipper of the boat and not to the boat. Upon completion of a series or an event, ties will be settled in favor of the skipper having beaten the other more times, or if still tied, by the results of the last race of the series or event.

RACE COMMITTEE DUTY

Duty will be assigned by draw when the yearly schedule is made. You can trade assigned Race Committee days with someone when you have a conflict. If you want to sail, you can bring a friend that, with your guidance, can start the races, call over earlys, and record finishes. If you choose to work Race Committee without sailing, you will be scored the average of all your other races in that series.
