You can contact us or visit our regular races. Here's the schedule. Here are directions. Sometimes our guys bring extra boats that visitors might try out. If not, one of our members will likely let you sail their boat for a race or two. If you want to sail with us regularly, you'll need a boat or a kit. We get our kits from Chesapeake Performance Model Yachts.
If you are going to order a boat, you NEED to be sure and get with us and order the correct channel, so you won't conflict with our other sailors.
We put an emphasis on fun and friendship, so if your competitive manners tend toward contentious, this may not be the Club for you.
How much does it cost?
The unassembled kit currently sells for $475 and includes everything you need except for 12 AA batteries. Already assembled boats from Chesapeake Performance Model Yachts will run up to twice that depending upon the color scheme or graphics.
How hard is it to put the kit together?
The hull and deck are premolded into one piece. This does make the assembly much easier than some kits. Many of our sailors found that they took about 2 weeks of evenings to assemble the kit. This may be longer or shorter depending on the time spent to paint and finish the hull. If model construction is not your favorite thing to do, there may be a used boat or two available from club members. Ask around. Check out the channel webpage.
How hard is it to sail? How many controls are there? Is there a motor?
Each boat has two controls, which drive two servos. One for both sheets (sail lines) and one for the rudder. There is no motor or propeller. The controls are easy to learn. They are intuitive and quite easy to master.
How much are the dues?
We do not have any dues or formal organization. Your only cost would be for your own trophys as you win them.
