Paper Figures

Welcome to the Warrenton Area Game Club showcase. Here we will show you some of the 2D paper miniatures and cardboard cutout models we game with. Card stock fighters and heroes for your gaming pleasure.

Paper Miniatures

Paper figures or miniatures can be used in role playing or in table top wargaming. They replace metal or plastic figures that represent the characters, troops or vehicles. Scenery, buildings and terrain cutouts can also be made of card board or card stock.

The benefits are numerous. You can affordably create large armies that have a range of character poses and styles. They don't require painting, they weight less so transporting them is easier. The only drawback is that game play can be disrupted by strong winds. Mounting some type of weight or washer on the base will remedy this problem.

While the 2D figures may sometimes lack the 3D visual appeal, the overall game can still have a grand appearance. The time required to complete assemble large groups of paper figures is far less than that of metal or plastic figures. The result are finished game pieces rather that half assembled, unpainted or primed metal/plastic figures.

The size of the game determines the number and size of the figures. Large battles with hundreds of figures or vehicles to small skirmishes with two to twenty figures. All figures are measured in scale, they are most frequently Micro, 15mm or 30mm. Obviously the smaller the figure, the larger the battle that can be recreated. 15mm and 30mm are usually characters or figures portrayed from a side or front angle and used as a stand up figure. Micro are usually vehicles (tanks, planes, ships) that are portrayed from a top down angle and are used as counters to represent multiples of the same kind.

Micro - 15mm - 30mm

Even if you cannot draw, there are some artists that offer their creations on the internet free for your personal use. Unfortunately, different artists often design, color and size their figures differently. So combining the figures can look disjointed or confusing. Not all artists can draw creatures or mythological beings either, so the range of figure selection is limited.

One of the best paper miniature designers (Patrick Crusiau), has his own site, where he provides free (non-commercial) use of his figures. We strongly recommend you visit his site and let him know his work is appreciated. There are many other designers and artwork available on the web or offered by manufacturers but we prefer his style. Patrick's site is located at Cardboard Fighters homepage.

In coordination with his work, we hope to expand upon the collection he has already made available. Each figure displayed here will be either a new creation or have modifications from his original artwork.

These designs and modifications will be provided here for free personal (non-commercial) use. Your comments and support would be greatly appreciated and an added incentive! Hopefully you will enjoy and appreciate our extending this gaming service to you. If you use the figures, email us some photos (.jpg format, 200kb or less please) and we will set up a gallery page.
