WILD WEST HUNTING

Wild West Hunting is pleased to announce it will have newly renovated facilities available this year.

Wild West Hunting is located in northern Kansas where there is a variety of game available.  Kansas is reknown for its fine and plentiful pheasant hunts.  With many farms growing grain it is a natural area for to develop a bountiful supply of pheasants.

Although many people are not aware of it,  Wild West Hunting is located in an area where there are large flocks of turkeys.  They grow large and heavy eating in the many corn fields and drinking from the streams in wooded areas nearby.  Both Rio Grande and Eastern turkeys are seen there.  This offers  an opportunity to help fill out two varieties in your card for taking all the varieties of turkey species available in the United States – the turkey grand slam.

Turkey hunting with dogs is a grand sport where you can sleep later and wait for the turkeys to fly down from the roost.  Let them walk around looking for food for a while.  They will lay down scent which the dogs will detect.  The turkey dogs will follow the scent into flock and bust the flock up, scattering it all over.  Then call back the birds and wait for your trophy.

Last year Kent found a high school buddy who now owns a large farm with grain and corn.  He had so many turkeys,  he was thrilled at the prospect of having them hunted.  We went scouting at dusk and the turkeys were so thick in the roost trees, we lost count.  As you can see from the photos above,  we had a very good Thanksgiving hunt and feast.  Our trusty turkey hunting Boykins loved the excitement.   Our biggest problem was getting license tags fast enough to keep hunting the plentiful  turkeys.

When you have  filled the turkey licenses the obvious change is to try the fine pheasant hunting. There are many areas available.  Some are public and some are private access by permission.  The guides available have experience in that area and know the local farms and families.  They can get you  into places visitors  will not be able to access.

Guests may bring their own dogs or use our dogs with a guide.  There are some new kennels available. Currently dogs being used are Boykin Spaniels, Boytels, or Deutscher Wachtelhunds.

The accommodations at the cabin include TV,  stove,  microwave,  coffee pots, and showers. Breakfast,  lunch sandwiches, drinks, and  dinner depend on your plan.  Liquor is BYO.

RV Travel home accommodations and electric hook-up can be arranged.

Lebanon, Kansas - Geographic Center of the 48 States

Geographic Center of the Contiguous United States is located just north and west of Lebanon, KS, adjacent to a pasture and overseen by a friendly-if-nonplussed herd of cows. The Center is a small grass patch containing a 10 ft. high stone podium and flagpole, on which U.S. and Kansas flags fly. A small plaque on the podium informs visitors that a government geographic survey in 1898 established this spot as the center of the continental U.S.
