The antenna switching PCB is located in the center of the antenna unit. The photo to the left shows how the components are laid out. A Radio Shack PCB was used with metal stand offs that provide chassis ground. The red wire is for F/B antenna switching. The white wire is used in the L/R antenna switching. A shielded two conductor cable with drain was used for the antenna switching.

The Main RDF Unit is housed in a Radio Shack project box that measures 6" W X 4"H X 2" D A reverse switch is used to accommodate different radios as audio signals are not the same. A computer adapter strip with the DB9 connector already cut out for mounting saved time. A rectangular cut on the box is a lot easier.
Side view RDF 1 unit
A look inside the RDF 1 unit and you can see the lay out of the parts. External pots are mounted on the front panel. The speaker is also a Radio Shack special under $2.00. The front panel of this box is made from 1/16" aluminum. The original cover was discarded as it was a lot thinner.

The IC'S are labeled in the photo so you can see the lay out on the main PCB. Click on the main PCB photo to enlarge to see info details. There is a lot of room here so hard wiring is not to difficult. This photo is so you can get some idea of what is on the Main PCB. A Radio Shack PCB that fit into the project box was used.
Main PCB
The LED Display PCB has a lot of parts, and demands more planning. The photo of the LED Display PCB hopefully will help you in lay out of your board. The top right side of the PCB was cut out to accommodate an external panel mounted potentiometer that was deleted from design. The right bottom is cut out to accommodate the frequency phase front panel mounted potentiometer. Tuning: The gain pot is adjusted to try to keep 3 to 4 LEDS lit. Peak the phase pot to a 45* signal and watch so both directions peak equally as possible. Try to do this with carrier only. GOOD LUCK
LED Display PCB
To calibrate LED centering. Center the LEDS with no signal present with the LED centering pots. Note: In the Left and Back directions if the signal is to strong after the 5th LED lights and tries to go to a higher level. the LEDS will go out. Turn down the gain and the LEDS will light .
