| The transmitter is built from a kit purchased from North Country
Radio of New Rochelle, N.Y. These folks have done a great job in designing
their kits and are the closest to a custom do-it-yourself project without
the usual trial and error of "de-bugging" a one of kind design. The
construction isn't easy for the novice but for one who is experienced with
soldering and electronic assembly putting this kit together isn't complicated.
The surprise for me was that the finished unit worked as planned after
the final tuneup!
The added ID and pattern generator is my innovation. It has been kept simple by using a small board camera for the image and sync signals. The artwork is illuminated by red LEDs and the image with text can be photos, hand drawn figures or computer created drawings. Also incorporated with the ID is a two circuit camera switcher that alternates the transmitted video between ID and external camera at an adjustable interval. The antenna is a 5 element vertical Yagi mounted at 20' on
a 30' tower and fed by approximately 25' of Belden 9913 coaxial cable . The
video camera is attached in an outside protected area near the top
of the building allowing a partial view of the valley below. Update: Since 2003 the transmitter site was damaged by lightning.
The equipment has been rebuilt and relocated south of town at Terra Verde
Heights. Also, a linear amplifier has been added and the transmit power increased
to 45 Watts. 01-24-2007 |
