Karma (4/30/84 - 4/19/01) was Heather (Banchory Fire and Ice CDX Can CD)'s last pup. She was actually one of a
litter of 5 bitches - the ONLY one who survived Heather's bad milk & my incompetance. She did so because I
gave her to Dayna who had a litter at the same time. (The only time I ever had 2 litters at once.) For the first
few months, Karma was a typical sheltie puppy. That was the first, last, and only thing typical about her life!
A member of the local kennel who did NOT like BANCHORY shelties actually LIKED Karma & thought her promising.
I should have known! At about 4 months, she went off, both physically and mentally. She never pulled it back
together physically - not in the way one would want a conformation dog to do. She needed A LOT of work to get it back
mentally. She was a SPOOK! It took her 2 years of pretty regular training to finally successfully do a stand for
exam - and this for a good friend who trained with us on a regular basis & housesat for me.
A CDX later and Karma was doing demonstrations at the state fair - complete with submitting to the public accolades after.
Karma was also my first UD. Her mother, Heather, developed arthritis before we finished her UD, Grandma Dayna died too
soon to complete hers. Karma did hers with the typical Karma flare. She got her first leg on the first try, her
second leg at our third trial, then went into a 14 show DROUGHT! Finally, she finished the title - placing on all
legs.
Karma would have loved agility, but we found out about it too late in her life (she was 11) for her to master the A-frame. Alas,
I didn't find out about jumpers classes until after I had retired her.
Karma will always have a special place in my heart. She taught me so much about dogs, about learning, about overcoming
obstacles. I will look forward to being able to clearly communicate my love and appreciation for her when we meet again
at "The Bridge".
