The current musical
legacy of the Babasin family is a part of what makes
up the jazz group known as ONOFFON. It is comprised of guitarist Don
Lake, drummer Dave Goode, and bassist Von Babasin. This site tells of
the latter,Von Babasin, and his background
in music and film, leading
up to the eventual union of ONOFFON.

The most influential
person in Von's life was
his father, jazz bass legend
Harry Babasin,
(pictured here), but was not the only artistic
influence Von was exposed to in childhood.
His brother, Pierre
Babasin, is a guitarist and
also a world-class graphic designer and artist.
His grandfather, Russell
F. Schoengarth, was
an A.C.E. film editor for Universal Studios
for over forty years with more than 90 films
to his credit. Von's uncle, Jack Schoengarth,
also edited films for Universal, and both,
grandfather and uncle, were cellists in the
Burbank Symphony, performing frequently
at the Starlight Bowl in the hills of Burbank.
Russell is no longer with us but Jack is still
performing throughout the Los Angeles area.
These four gentlemen were strong creative
influences that helped lay the foundation for
Von's expertise in film, video and music.

While playing in various bands for many
years,Von also pursued his other love,
film making, working in many capa-
cities for MCA,Universal for eight
straight years, and then for many more
years for a variety of independent companies, usually working with
special effects crews. This background
also helped Von gain an understand-
ing of film and video production.
