University Health Systems Fair - Sept. 22
I will be explaining art therapy techniques to nurses who are focusing on pain
management. Many patients find that when they are working on an art project, their awareness of pain decreases.
Children can often better describe the intensity, quality, and location of their pain by using drawings, making it easier
for their caregivers to help them.

Is Art Medicine? We begin to answer the
question in Rx Art: Take your
Medicine (RxArtSA.org), a series of exhibits and workshops
at various locations across the City. The program is organized by the non-profits Bihl Haus
Arts (bihlhausarts.org) and the Health and Healing Consortium (hhcinfo.org). Rx Art investigates art’s potential to heal both artist and viewer, and
on all levels--spiritual, mental, emotional, physical. It promotes the benefits of the therapeutic arts for communities and
individuals. Participating Artist-Healers address how their particular artwork aids in self-care and healing and helps them
in their work with clients and patients. Art galleries and other cultural and health-related organizations are also eligible to participate
