Vicki Lynn Williams-Patterson, MCAT

Board Certified Art Therapist

Licensed Professional Counselor

I have been in practice as an art therapist since 1983. My graduate education placed significant importance in developmental psychology, and I have continued with that orientation. For the past 16 years, I have been conducting seminars on the therapeutic uses of art in the counseling process. I have presented at both regional and international conferences. Since receiving my MCAT, I have continued in informal training in the areas of trauma recovery, Jungian psychology, and sandplay therapy. In 1990, I began getting additional training in play therapy. I have actively sought training from my peers through various study and supervision groups in the areas of play therapy and trauma recovery.

My primary teachers, both in symbols and in the intricacies of psychological development, have been my clients. From ages three (3) to sixty-three, my clients have been telling me their dreams, making sand trays, playing out dramas, and creating art with me. The broad range of their ages along with the richness of their creative expressions have given me a unique understanding of the symbols of transformation in the healing process.

Marking art is like breathing - you gotta do it!

Hey!  Making art is messy - that's part of the process.  Collage is a great way to start expressing yourself.  Get paper, photos, magazines - glue - scissors - and start assembling images that you like.  Cut out words that give you energy and make you smile - add those too.  Put your collage where you can see it easily - on the ceiling over you bed, use a digital photo of it as your screen saver, over or near your bathroom mirror!

Momma Vicki says, "Never put out more glitter than you are prepared to lose!"
