<back<Rocky Tutorial

O
ur goal is to create a nice rocky surface suitable for application to a cave wall, mountain range or boulder. This surface, see example right, is created using only Lightwave's built in shaders
If you're particurlarly lazy you can download a surface settings file in the resources section of this tutorial.

The first layer of Crumple texture in the bump channel.

We'll start off with a base color of:
H: 160
S: 0
B: 181
and a two layers of Crumple texture in the Bump channel:
(1) 5" XYZ & (2) 12" XYZ
(1) -50.0 % Amplitute & (2) 100%
(1) 4 Scales & (2) 3 Scales
0.75 Small power for both

This should give us a fairly nice representation of raw rock but it's too uniform in color, real rock has veins of different minerals and impurities that give it areas of different color and shadow. So we'll add some Fractal Noise in the color channel. Something like:

40% Opacity
6"XYZ
3 Frequencies
1.0 Contrast
0.5 Small Power
