<back<Inspire, safe?

In the picture at the right the RED field chart is the only option available for Inspire users to estimate their title and action safe areas.

The WHITE areas show the title safe and action safe areas (respectively) that are available to Lightwave users.

The coffee cup represents......coffee :-)

Because Inspire lacks a "show safe areas" button I've
decided to sit down and write about a few workarounds.

Workaround #1:

If you're comfortable editing scene files you can simply add "ShowSafeAreas 1" to your inspire scene file by opening your scene file in a text editor (notepad on the PC or simpletext on the Mac) and scrolling down to the section that looks like the following:

ViewMode 3 View
Aimpoint 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
ViewDirection 0.300197 -0.314159 0.000000
ViewZoomFactor 4.000000
GridNumber 10
GridSize 1.000000
ShowMotionPath 1
ShowBGImage 0
ShowFogRadius 1
ShowRedraw 0
ShowSafeAreas 1 (make sure this line saya 1 to enable "show safe areas")
ShowFieldChart 0

Workaround #2

If you're not willing to edit your scene file manually you can simply add this image as your backdrop image.
Effects -> Composting -> Background Image

Workaround #3

Okay if you're really lazy you can just visually gauge where your "safe areas" are by turning on the field chart (options -> layout view -> show field chart) and making sure your titles, etc clear the second and a half tick mark from the outside (see the image above).

That's all there is to it. If you're interested in downloading a scene file that demonstrates these principles proceed on to the resources page....

Here's how the final render looks with safe areas defined. Oh, that reminds me, I need more coffee!
