Lena was the second wife of James Austin CARR. She died in
1947 in Kiowa, Pittsburg Co., Oklahoma. The Pittsburg Genealogical Society in McAlester, Oklahoma has a transcription
of the burial record from the Mills Funeral Home. It shows her name as Lena Josie Ann RIVERS, born 1872.
Austin CARR's obituary in 1944 lists Ada TOMILSON as one of his
children. She was his step-daughter, daughter of Lena.
A letter dated September 25, 1995 from James Brown, Blanco Cemetery
Committee Chairman, identified the graves of Austin and Lena CARR as Area 1, Row #19 and #20. That same letter
mentioned that daughter Ada was first married to a COLLINS and then to Robert SMITH.
The 1920 census for White Oak Township, Franklin Co., Arkansas shows
Jesse B. COLLINS, born about 1866 in Indiana and wife Ada, age 19, born about 1901 in Oklahoma. They had one son
Johnnie, age 1 and a half years, born in Arkansas.
In 1980, Frank and Gladys CARR visited Ada SMITH in Gilroy,
California.
Frank knew her as Ada COLLINS, daughter of Lena CARR.
In the summer of 1980 at the CARR reunion in Snelling, California,
Will SCURLOCK provided information about Lena and her family. He said that Lena's name was Lena Josie Ann RIVERS FOWLER.
He wasn't sure which surname was her maiden name.
Ada May SMITH died May 5, 1986 in Gilroy, Santa Clara Co., California.
The CA Death Records on-line transcriptions show that she was born 28 May 1901 in Oklahoma. Her maiden name was shown
as CROSLEY. Her mother's maiden name was shown as FOWLER.
The 1910 census would be an ideal place to find Ada, born 1901.
No entries have been found for Ada or Lena with the surnames CROSLEY,
RIVERS or FOWLER.
