SOME OF OUR SURNAMES
ARE AS OLD AS THE HILLS
Adam and Eve didn't have a surname. As the population
of our earth multiplied, many people had the same given name, so last names were assigned. They
are called "surnames."
Mr. Webster, author of the wonderful book called a Dictionary, described the word surname:
A family name
A name attached to a person at birth
A name by reason of occupation, residence
or place of birth developing into a family name
Some of the immigrants shortened or changed their
names or spelling of the name when they came to America. Our Dragoo name is a good example of variants. In America it
is spelled Dragoo, Draggoo, Dragoe, Drageau and Dragaud. In France and England it was spelled Dragaud and occassionally
written as Dragauld.
The CARR surname is English and Scottish. In some instances it is spelled
KARR or KERR.
Our PARKER surname has been identified as "keeper of the parks."
Most NELSON surnames are Swedish or Norwegian and usually mean
son of Nels. My HENSON ancestry may also be from Sweeden
or Norway.
The ROSS surname has origins going back to the beginning of
America.
The HUSSONG families are said to be German and may also descend from
the French surname de Husson.
Some of our surnames are difficult to determine their meanings, such as SCURLOCK and PAUL.
Our surname discovered in 2006 of BITTICK
