Resume

To whom it may concern:

I am interested in a position in an actuarial student program. I am hoping to pursue a career as an actuary in the property and casualty sector of insurance. I have taken the first of the CAS exams and have already registered for the second exam in May.

I graduated from Vassar College in May 2002 with General Honors. While majoring in Economics, I focused primarily on econometrics and game theory. I also took advantage of Vassar's range of options, explored everything from quantum physics, through music theory, past technical theatre, and into computer science and web design.

My experience with Excel comes from both my present employment and my thesis. I currently maintain several files used for contact lists and data reporting, having created these files for the purpose. Such projects have given me the chance to hone my knowledge of advanced filters and complex formulae. While working on my thesis, I entered census data unavailable in electronic form into Excel, where I completed much of my analysis. I later used STATA to perform and analyze the linear regressions.

My work experience since graduation has been varied. I currently work as a long term temporary employee for The Governor's Prevention Partnership. I started as an administrative assistant and have since changed departments to work as the Interim Training and Events Coordinator. My previous employment grew out of a summer job into a salaried position that covered everything from working with payroll data in Excel to fleet maintenance to rowing across Edgartown Harbor in order to drive a regular school bus route. Both positions have required flexibility, communication, multi-tasking, and the ability to coordinate with other people.

My previous experience has prepared me for both the office and academic aspects of the actuarial profession. I hope that balancing my desire to continue learning with the need for practical experience will leave me with little time to be bored.

Many regards,
