An early Sunrise Records label test sketch, 1978

Being an avid Beatles fan, I began collecting bootleg records after the group broke up.  Many of these bootlegs had blank white labels that I found perfect for practicing my earliest designs.  This example depicts the finalized Sunrise label concept.  The sun is to one side, peeking over the horizon, with light beaming across "water" below and several rays fan across the sky above to lend a three-dimensional effect.  Rather than having the full Sunrise Records name printed, the "records" part would be implied.  Below this would appear the record's side number.  Instead of having a white background as seen here, the intent was to eventually present dark blue water below the horizon and light blue sky above, with light colors for text lettering.  Overall, it was to have a pastel appearance.
