Jack is standing on the Old French Bridge between the hamlets of Phu Da 1 and Phu Da 2. It was blown years before by the Communists.
The Americans created a wooden bridge over the small ravine in July 1970.
The ravine was a favorite Communist route in and out of the village. The route led down to the Thu Bon River.
