VERTONEN FULL LENGTH LP HERE NOW;
JASON ZEH'S "A VACANT LOT TO BE IN"
COMING RIGHT UP
Vertonen "HACE/26,250' / 11º 22.4'N 142º 35.5' E" LP
Co-released with Misanthropic Agenda, this LP, which is supported in part by a City of Chicago CAAP grant, is an audio exploration of the clash between the will of humans, the limits of their bodies, and the immutable laws of the natural world--the latter of which can easily destroy both of the first two. This is the first full length Vertonen LP (!)
The 11º 22.4'N 142º 35.5'E side is based on the 1960 dive by Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh in the bathyscaphe Trieste to the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point on earth.
This side aims to mirror the combination of analytic scientific preparation and calibration that the team did and the inherent and unavoidable human concern of "if something goes wrong, there's a good chance we could die."
The HACE / 26,250' side was inspired by research on High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), a condition where oxygen is not getting to the brain.
HACE has the greatest potential for striking in the Dead Zone, (26,250 feet), where available oxygen cannot sustain human life for more that 3 hours. Of course, for someone aiming to summit Mt Everest, there are "only" 2,750 feet remaining--and, the person still has to descend back through the Dead Zone. With their goal so closely in reach, a climber may sacrifice the rational (saving their life) for the sake of achieving their goal (summiting Everest).
In a nutshell, HACE / 26,250 is a soundtrack for a body closing down; heart rates slowing, blood flow slowing, everything once moist and carrying life slowly becoming brittle, dry, and unable to function due to duress.

...and in the next two months, some reissue and backlogged Vertonen CDRs...
Vertonen "unsettlement" CDR
After two years of back and forth, the label that was originally slated to release this is in the process of slowly closing its doors, so the release is back in my hands and I aim on getting it out by the end of May. The release is an extension, in parts, of the concepts explored in "Facing Leinth" (released by Mike Shiflet's gameboy label some moons ago) and the "ETAOIN SHRDLU" 3" CDR I self released in 2010. "Unsettlement" explores the decay of language utilizing dead (or dying) consumer playback media (microcassette, shortwave, cassette, turntable, mainly) while keeping a foot in overarching eschatological concerns. Edition of 100 copies.
Vertonen "ice cells " CDR
Originally released (sort of) on trust lost in 2008 (seriously; the edition was maybe 30 copies, and no review copies were ever sent), I originally described this disc as "Crawling high tones, frayed wires, bad connections, mechanical failure, and discrete electronic breakdown shape the sounds on this release. The aural goal is to place you beneath a 2" thick sheet of ice in a large pond somewhere in an unincorporated community of Michigan on a bleak, pre-dawn winter morning." It's a bath of high tone drones, folks. Also in an edition of 100 copies.
Vertonen: cultivation cavity 3" CDR
An iteration of a piece I performed at the opening of Tritriangle in Chicago and the Your Head is a Phantom Limb festival in Minneapolis. Voice, music boxes, modified turntables, and field recordings commingle to shine a light on denial, desperation, diversion, and despair. Edition of 45 copies, also due by the end of May.
Jason Zeh: "A Vacant Lot to Be In" LP
This man is a master of the cassette tape and cassette playback devices. Using magnets, metal, plastic, car stereo tape adapters, cassette players without tape, cassette tape loops, modified tape decks, and sand paper (among other devices), Zeh creates two tracks that swim through hiss, grit, and wavering, fractured soundwaves to create some of the most engaging audio I've had the pleasure to hear. If you've enjoyed Zeh's previous work, this LP will be a welcoming addition to your ears. edition of 300 copies, silkscreened back sleeve and mounted risography image on the cover. Price forthcoming.
Important note for folks across the ocean...
When ordering from C.I.P. insurance/some sort of tracking method
is mandatory for overseas orders (when available; the US postal
service is amazingly inconsistent about what countries are "eligible" for insured packages and by what method of shipping I can actually
insure things. Yes, it's odd to say the least.) I've had a few items
become lost and the combination of lost goods and having to deal
with the bureaucracy of the US Post Office is not good for any of
us. The easiest way to deal with this is to order from the many
fine overseas distributors which stock C.I.P. releases. This will
more often than not save you a good amount in shipping charges and
time. Distributors abroad include: Drone
and Die
Stadt in
Germany; naninani
in France; NEdS in Japan; and Second
Layer
in the UK. Please note: Some distributors only have e-mail addresses
as far as I know; e-mail me and I'll send them your way. However,
if these folks do not have the title for which you are looking,
contact me and I'll get all shipping information organized.
Paypal:
Yes,
C.I.P. does accept paypal payments.
Please Note:
The only account to which you should make payments is endtime34@hotmail.com.
Please note, part 2: add $1 for every $20 ordered, and please contact
C.I.P. at vertonen@earthlink.net before you make any payments. |
