your programming ability or your server's

News is a weekly-updated site designed
to keep track of issues concerning all major Web
browsers. A unique resource.
Doctor
Watson is another analysis tool to check
a number of things about your site, including
links and search engine
compatibility.
The
Free Site is one of the best resources
for free and nearly-free software and
services. Updated frequently.
There's a lot to look at here. It is very
hard to not find something that interests
you. You'll find me here a lot.
Gibson
Research has a number of unique free and
low-cost tools for webmasters, including the Shields
Up! utility to check your computer's
vulnerability to hackers. The SpinRite
hard drive utility is inexpensive and excellent.
Housecall
is a site that will scan your computer on-line
to remove any viruses. Always up-to-date,
and it's free.
Internet
Content Rating Association (ICRA) is a
well-known voluntary labeling program for web
sites, with the goal of keeping inappropriate
material from being viewed by children.
Corel
Software bought out Jasc Software and
now offers Paint Shop Pro, a
quality graphics program for webmasters on a
budget. I use it for all of my
graphics. Free demo available.
SafeSurf
is another voluntary labeling site with goals
similar to ICRA.
Simply
The Best Information Library has a
number of articles explaining the many technical
terms one comes across while building web sites
and dealing with modern technology.
SitePoint
is one of the best forums on the Internet for
webmasters. There are areas for all skill
levels.
VirtualPromote (formerly JimWorld)
is one of the oldest resource sites for
webmasters on the Internet -- and still one of
the very best. If it isn't here, you
probably don't need it!
Visicheck
is a resource designed to show you how your site
appears to someone who is color-blind, and how
to correct any problems. (Since I am
color-blind, I can appreciate this!)
Web
Pages That Suck teaches you what not
to do when you design a web site. We can
learn from bad examples.
Zone
Labs is the producer of ZoneAlarm,
one of the better personal firewalls
available. A free version is
available. If you have an always-on
Internet connection, you should strongly consider this.
