Non-Flash Building Permit Self-Test for the Internet Beacon Awards

Your site must meet all of the following requirements in order to be eligible for an Internet Beacon Award:

bullet

Your site must be a personal web site.

bullet

Your site may not represent a business or commercial enterprise.

bullet

Your site may not represent a non-profit organization or a governmental agency or institution.

bullet

Your site may not directly solicit money for any purpose, including charitable purposes.  (Third-party associate agreements are OK, as long as any such solicitation is off-site.)

bullet

Your site may not offer services of any type in exchange for money or other compensation.  (Asking only for a link back to your site is OK.)

bullet

Your site may not contain or link to pornographic, hateful, insensitive, tasteless, anti-, or Satanic material.

bullet

Your site may not provide or link to warez (illegal pirated software).  Your site may not offer, link to, or promote any other type of illegal activity.

bullet

Your site must not be a gambling site.

bullet

You must be age 16 or older (to assure compliance with C.O.P.P.A. as well as the Internet Beacon's viewing guidelines).

bullet

Your site must not require a password for access to any of its pages.

bullet

Your site must be in English, or have alternate English pages.  (Providing a link for machine translation does not fulfill this requirement.)

bullet

The content of your site may not consist entirely, or almost entirely, of links to other sites.

bullet

Your site must be completely free of copyright violations, including graphics and sound.

bullet

Your site may not contain more than two instances of profanity.  This includes any interactive forum or blog which may be on your site or directly linked to your site.

bullet

Your site must consist of more than one page.

bullet

Your site may not be entirely, or almost entirely, a "vanity site" (this is me, here's a picture of my dog, here's where I went on vacation, etc.).

bullet

If your site displays an icon indicating that your site is Web Accessibility Initiative-compliant, your site must be in 100% compliance with WAI guidelines.

bullet

Your site may not contain more than two pages with two or more spelling, grammatical and/or punctuation errors.

bullet

Your site may not contain pages which are "under construction," "coming soon," or obviously incomplete.

bullet

Your site may not contain more than two animated graphics on any page.

bullet

If your site has a splash page, it must allow users to back out of the site.

bullet

Your site must not contain graphics that steal another site's bandwidth (unless that site has specifically requested that you do this).

bullet

Your site must not load Comet Cursor or any other software on the viewer's site without their permission.

bullet

Your site may not have advertising in pop-up or pop-under windows (except for those required by your web space or service provider).

bullet

Your site may not have so many advertising banners that it becomes difficult to find the content.

bullet

Your site may not have any broken internal links or missing graphics.

bullet

Your site must not contain coding that will crash the viewer's browser.  (If you crash my browser, I will try only once more.)

Note: meeting these eligibility requirements does not guarantee that your site will win an award!  It does, however, mean that your site has no obvious defects that would make it ineligible.

Thank you for reading through the Internet Beacon Awards Self-Test.  (As a reward for your patience, enter the word "test" in the "Control Word" box of the award application.  You will receive two bonus points!)
