Step 7: Extra-Bright Lamp

The building process of our lighthouse was actually completed with the previous step.  If all went according to plan, we should have a solid, functional lighthouse which will serve well.  Sometimes, however, we may decide to do a little extra.  We may place an extra-bright lamp in our lighthouse.  Our beacon of light will then go ever further, reaching out to ships that would not be reached by a standard lamp.

When we build an Internet Beacon, we would like to reach out to as many people as possible.  And so we may choose to go the extra mile and have our site accessible to people with disabilities.

You may indicate that you have done this by indicating that your site meets the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.  This indication is certainly not necessary in order to win an Internet Beacon Award.  It is definitely appreciated, however, that you took the time and effort (and it does require extra effort) to make your site accessible to more people.  The appearance of such an indication brings a smile to my face.

I urge you to visit the above links and consider making your site accessible to those with disabilities.

By the way . . . there is a question on the application that asks, "Did you read the criteria?"  Be sure to answer this question "NO."  As a reward for actually reading my criteria, I will add a bonus point to your score.

That's the entire process!  Now proceed to the Inspection Scoring.
