SUBJECT: MEETING MINUTES, FALL MEETING ‘98-99 SEASON

1.0 Old Business/Committee Reports

The Secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting. The minutes were approved as read.

The Treasurer’s report was read reflecting activity since the last meeting, with a closing balance of $5,734.64. The report was approved as presented.

1.1 Evening Of Champions

Committee chairmen, Bill Houle was away on a business trip so Dottie Walsh provided a report of the 1998 Evening Of Champions. The event was held Sunday evening, October 18, 1998 at the Holiday Skating Center, Delanco, New Jersey.

The evening featured Eastern Region singles and pairs skaters as well three skaters from the Northeast Region. The evening benefits the region’s members of the world team. This year the Eastern Region sent five skaters to the World meet, each of whom received $610.00 grant from the committee. The Eastern Region skaters are Jason Cohen, Bernadette Stringer, Patricia Houle, Heater Bain, and Robyn Platoni.

Rob Ryan was added to the EOC committee.

1.2 Eastern Region Awards Dinner

Committee chairperson, Vivian Veith, was unable to attended and Dottie Walsh presented the committee’s report. The regional awards dinner was held at King’s Caters in Levittown, Pennsylvania on October 25, 1998. The combined event for art, hockey and speed was attended by 365 skaters, coaches, and their supporters. Dinner program advertising lagged last year’s results and continues to be the key to the financial success of the dinner.

John Miner resigned from the committee and was replaced by Linda Miner.

Committee: Vivian Veith, chairman, Mary Allmond, Margaret Bain, Allen Bell, Bill Houle, Ginny Houle, Charlie Kirchner, Marie McGee, Linda Miner, Roxanne Phillips, Bernie Stringer and Dottie Walsh.

1.3 McHenry Scholarship

The Eastern Region Artistic Coaches Association donated a $500.00 scholarship from the proceeds of the Tri State Artistic League Meets. The NJ State USAC also donated $500.00 scholarship from the proceeds of the State Meets. There were seven well qualified applicants. The committee selected Sharon Carvens of the Omni Skating Club and Troy Tucker of the Kendall Park Skating Club as the winners of the 1998 awards. The awards were announced at the Eastern Region Awards Dinner in October.

Steve Hinkle was an interim member of the committee, his term is now complete.

1.4 Gold Medal Test Center

The region plans to offer two Gold Medal Test Centers this season. The first will be run in conjunction with the Spring Invitational at the Holiday Skating Center. The second will be run in conjunction with the Regional Championships at Christiana Skating Center. Those wishing to skate tests at either of the meets should contact Steve Hinkle for the Holiday Meet or Beth Nolan for the Regional meet at Christiana.

1.5 Hockey

Dom Panico and Charles Kirchner gave an overview of the ‘98-99 season highlighting the league structure along with the bidding process for the meets.

Last season Charlie Kirchner ran a high school league which awarded a scholarship to Kurt Reager of the South Jersey Hockey Association. Plans for this season call for expansion of the high school league to 8 teams.

2.0 New Business

2.1 Call For Bids For Regional Sites for 2001

Bids will be received at the meeting or by mail to Al Taglang no later than 30 days from the day of this meeting. The following are the qualified bidder for the 2001 regional championships.

The vote will be held at the Spring ‘99 meeting and the site awarded.

 

2,2 National Nominating Committee

Al Taglang was designated at the Eastern Region’s representative to the National Nominating Committee.

2.3 Judges & Coaches Conference

The ‘98 conference will offer the opportunity for C commissioned artistic judges to upgrade to B commission.

2.4 Board Meeting Review

Sue Dooley presented an overview of the changes made at the October Board of Directors meeting.

3.0 Adjournment

The general meeting was adjourned at 8:20 PM and was followed by meetings of the hockey committee, and the artistic coaches and judges.
