Covenant Dedications and Related Events by Presbytery
National Capitol Presbytery
On Pentecost Sunday, May 18, a group of churches which have signed Covenants
of Dissent will be hosting a service of dedication at New
York Avenue Presbyterian Church at 1313 New York Avenue, Washington,
D.C. 20008. For more information, or if you are interested in sponsoring
a similar service in your area, contact Kirsten Kingdon at KKingdon@cris.com.
Presbytery de Cristo
In Presbytery de Cristo, opponents of Amendment B will be holding a
service on Pentecost Sunday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Presbyterian
Church, Tucson, Arizona. The service is entitled, "'WE SHALL NOT BE
MOVED'": A Service of Lament, Prayer, and Recommitment to the Essentials
of the Reformed Faith." It is our intention that during the service
we will invite the congregation to sign the 1997
Declaration of Reformed Faith. We will also have available other Covenants
of Dissent (including the Stonecatchers' version)
for individuals to take with them and sign. The service will be designed
around the Declaration of Reformed Faith, using excerpts as congregational
responses.
Mission Presbytery
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church,
Austin, Texas - currently the only "More Light" church in the
presbytery - will dedicate its Covenant of Dissent
at a special service on Pentecost Sunday, May
18 at 7:00 p.m. Other churches and individuals in the presbytery are being
invited to participate. The dedication service will be the first of monthly
services at St. Andrew's to pray for the Holy Spirit to help us seek more
of God's truth in this time of disharmony, fear, and brokenness in our denomination
and in the world and to affirm our intention to work in love and humility
toward a denomination that respects God's great gift of diversity by welcoming
all people, without reservation, in Christ's name.
St. Andrew's is located at 14311 Wells Port Drive (exit 247 from I-35
to Wells Branch Parkway; turn West [left if going north on I-35, right if
going south] and look for the church at the top of the hill). For further
information, call 512-251-0698 or email StA_Open@aol.com
