The Island

7/24/2005

The Island stars Ewan McGregor as Lincoln Six Echo/Tom Lincoln, Scarlett Johansson as Jordan Two Delta/Sarah Jordan, Djimon Hounsou as Albert Laurent, Sean Bean as Merrick, Steve Buscemi as McCord, Michael Clarke Duncan as Starkweather, Ethan Phillips as Jones Three Echo, Brian Stepanek as Gandu Three Alpha, Noa Tishby as Community Announcer, and Siobhan Flynn as Lima One Alpha.

The Island starts out as a futuristic film. We are led to believe that the outside world is contaminated ala Logan's Run. There is one place left on earth that is not contaminated and that is The Island. There is a lottery, where the inhabitants are chosen to go to The Island. The world runs smoothly until Lincoln Six Echo starts to question his existance. Others soon start to question, also. This in a planned society where close proximitywarnings occur between genders. Lincoln Six Echo(I Love that name) is told to see Merrick, the person in charge. The fact that anyone is questioning their lives is of concern to a smooth running society, where all manner of living is provided for, but by whom, and to what purpose?

The Island is a film that changes genres. It starts as a surviving futuristic society, then becomes a mystery/thriller, then an action film. We have seen this film before in parts of Coma, Logan's Run, and The Matirx. It was lacking focus, but was still entertaining.

I give it 3 out of 5 nail guns:
