The Ladykillers

4/5/2004

The Ladykillers stars Tom Hanks as Professor G.H. Dorr, Irma P. Hall as Marva Munson, Marlon Wayans as Gawain MacSam, J.K. Simmons as Garth Pancake, Tzi Ma as The General, Ryan Hurst as Lump Hudson, Diane Delano as Mountain Girl, George Wallace as Sheriff Wyner, John McConnell as Deputy Sheriff, Jason Weaver as Weemack Funthes, Stephen Root as Fernand Gudge, Lyne Odums as Rosalie Funthes, Walter K. Jordan as Elron, George Anthony Bell as Preacher.

The Ladykillers is a film that should be a play (I hate plays). It has very predictable laughs, that is they didn't make me laugh. I could see them coming for miles. The Ladykillers uses a retread plot from stories as far back as Sherlock Holmes (The red headed league). It is also a remake of an earlier film. Has Tom Hanks finally made the flop and gone the way of Kevin Costner? The character Tom Hanks portrays is one that I have seen in the film Hard Times and every other Edgar Alan Poe impersonation!

Well here's the plot! Tom Hanks rents a room from a woman just to use her basement to tunnel into a cash room used by a river boat with a casino on board. The cast of characters are misfits gathered together for the crime as they have failed at every other endeavor. The Comedy of Errors continues until the last predictable scene and line roll of off the screen! This one will have you looking at your watch!!

I give it 1 out of 5 cigarettes:
