Kill Bill Vol. 1 stars Uma Thurman as The Bride/Black Mamba, David Carradine as Bill, Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii/Cottonmouth, Daryl Hannah as Elle Driver/California Mountain Snake, Vivica A. Fox as Vernita Green/Copperhead, Michael Madsen as Budd/Sidewinder, Michael Parks as Sheriff, Sonny Chiba as Hattori Hanzo, and Julie Dreyfus as Sofie Fatale
Kill Bill Vol. 1 is a film that has way too many stars for the caliber of acting required to tell this revenge story. Quentin Tarantino, the supposed wonderkind of Hollywood, gives us a rehash of several good and bad movies we have already seen. Of course, with a large budget, and well known stars the film is well made. It is missing only one ingredient, the one that makes us say, "Man! You've got to see this film!" There is nothing compelling about this film. Hollywood has forgotten about plagiarism! Quentin Tarantino took several well known scenes out of movies and reworked them into Kill Bill. At times I thought I was watching What's up Tiger Lily, the spoof by Woody Allen.
The main fight scene with Uma Thurman (We really don't care what her character name is because it doesn't add anything to the story) is very bloody. However, it is intentionally done in the cheesy style of old Chinese Kung Fu flics. The other peculiarity of this film is the background music. It is western/Mexican. Woody Allen didn't even think of putting the sound track of a spaghetti western in What's up Tiger Lily. That Quentin Tarantino what a genius!
Oh! The plot, here it is. We start out with murder and mayhem, take a jaunt back in time to learn why, it's revenge, then we continue in the present with more murder and mayhem.
The only reason to see this film is for the never-ending samurai sword fight scene.
I give it 2 out of 5 Body Parts:
