Blade II

4/7/2002

Blade II stars Wesley Snipes as Blade/Daywalker, Kris Kristofferson as Whistler, Norman Reedus as Scud, Leonor Varela as Nyssa, Ron Perlman as Reinhardt, Luke Goss as Nomak, Daz Crawford as Lighthammer, Matt Schulze as Chupa, Donnie Yen as Snowman, Danny John-Jules as Asad, Rey-Phillip Santos as Red Eye, Pete Lee-Wilson as Blood Bank Doctor.

Blade II is the sequel to Blade. It is an action film done in the video game format. There is very little plot to get in the way of the action. Near the end of the film the plot is revealed, and the action then continues. For those who did not see Blade here is the plot of both movies. Blade/Daywalker is half vampire and half human. This allows him not to be effected by sunlight. He has controlled his thirst for blood with the help of his friend Whistler. Blade, now, is a vampire hunter, the worst enemy of the vampires.

Blade II introduces an Über Vampire, one who hunts and devours normal vampires. Once normal vampires are bitten by the Über Vampire, they become Über Vampires. The head of the vampires asks Blade to help him hunt down and destroy the Über Vampire. This is where Blade II turns into Preditor the video game. A lot of going down halls, catacombs and unending shooting. In fact the Über Vampire when ready to bite resembles the Preditor.

For Action junkies, this film has action, a lot of action. What is missing, is new gadgets and weapons ala 007. The film is well made and Wesley Snipes always gives us a great performance, but the too familiar scenes distract the viewer.

I give it 3 out of 5 shades:
