Ocean's Eleven stars George Clooney as Daniel Ocean, Matt Damon as Linus Caldwell, Andy Garcia as Terry Benedict, Julia Roberts as Tess Ocean, Elliott Gould as Reuben Tischkoff, Brad Pitt as Rusty Ryan, Scott Caan as Turk Malloy, Bernie Mac as Frank Catton, Carl Reiner as Saul Bloom, Casey Affleck as Virgil Malloy, Shaobo Qin as Yen, Edward Jemison as Livingston Dell, Lennox Lewis as Himself, Vitali Klitschko as Himself.
Ocean's Eleven is a film that should have never been remade. The only acting going on in this film is by Andy Garcia as Terry Benedict as the very uptight casino owner and Carl Reiner. So what were the others doing, collecting big pay for their name. Julia Roberts alone must have made somewhere around several million per minute. That is how unnecessary her part is. She could have been replaced by a stripper or some bimbo. George Clooney and Brad Pitt were supposed to be the Starkey and Hutch of this film. (If you do not know who they are then this film is for you.) But, they had no chemistry as buddies.
Ocean's Eleven has a plot, similar to the original film with a TV Mission Impossible twist. The Eleven, masterminded by Daniel Ocean, are going to rob the safe of a large casino estimated to 163 milion dollars cash on hand. The safe however is deep within the bowels of the casino guarded by the latest security devices consisting of cameras, guards, and lasers. Why do the have expensive lasers in an elevator shaft instead of ultrasonic motion detectors or infrared lasers, because you can't see the red beams on the screen. Of course the boys succeed, but then you knew that the minute the opening credits rolled.
Ocean's Eleven does one thing for the viewer, it lets us know who hollywood thinks can attract viewers by strictly brand name recognition.
I give it 2 out of 5 suckers:
