For the past 52 years, the UP College of Nursing has leed the course of nursing education in the country
in terms of competency-based education and relevant researches and publications. It has consistently maintained the
highest standards of academic excellence as evidenced by the performance of its graduates in the licensure examination and
professional practice here and abroad. By virtue of this, the UPCN has been identified by the Commission of Higher
Education (CHED) as a “Center of Excellence for Nursing Education” (1996-2001) and designated by the World Health
Organization (WHO) as a “Collaborating Center for Nursing Development in Primary Health Care.” The
college recently paid homage to its founder and first dean, Prof. Emeritus Julita V. Sotejo, by naming its building “Sotejo
Hall,” in a simple ceremony last September 7, 2000.
