CCpt Jan Petri Arcinue, 3Cl, directs the Uranus team on the defense.

AMIDST hand-to-hand fighting, ricocheting pellets and bursting water bombs, the Kampilan’s Jupiter Team cornered the Uranus Team in its base in front of the UP College of Medicine and later won in Pagsasanay, a field training exercise held last 03TD, 03 December at the UP Manila grounds.

Intense fighting started at the entrance to the Paz Mendoza Parking Lot. Hand-to-hand fighting took nearly 20 minutes, as each side tried to get past into the opponent’s territory. When hit by pellets, cadets are considered “dead” and are led out of the gatme, contributing a point to the enemy. Virtually captured, the Jupiter Team “killing” the Uranus troops contributed to the Jupiter victory.

The Jupiter Team fought its way to the very outskirts of the Uranus base and nearly captured it, if not for a determined counter-attack of the Uranus troops that drove Jupiter from the Pathology and Public Health buildings.

The cadet officer-in-charge of Oplan Pagsasanay, CLtCol Ricky Bulalakaw 1Cl, briefed the Kampilan Battle Group before the simulated battle and later that day evaluated the same activity.

After the usual inspection and the briefing, the battle started around 0800H. Jupiter proceeded to its base at the half-completed new Dentistry building, while Uranus was at the front of the College of Medicine. Both teams did not know the location of the base of their respective opponents.

Cadet Major Rodolfo Otbo 2Cl led an attack against the Uranus Team via the parking lot entrance, where resistance by Uranus, led by Cadet Captain Jan Petri Arcinue led to a stalemate lasting nearly 20 minutes. The resistance by Uranus ended after a strong Jupiter attack.

The field training exercise ended 1025H, and Jupiter and Uranus returned to formation. CLtCol Bulalakaw, COKBG, evaluated the performance of the Kampilan cadets, as well as the performance of the unit as a whole.

The activity hoped to train Kampilan cadets in armed combat and the officers in strategy. It is the prelude to the paintball activity, which uses paintballs for ammunition and is to be held at a later date.
