Anna
Anna Karenina Golez, Corps Commander '99

Anna Karenina N Golez

The ever present, responsible and loyal Anna Karenina who inspired Leo Tolstoy's novel and the Channel 7 tele-novela is the Corps G5. She's the woman behind the color details, newsletters and Corps Sponsors. To date, she has supervised nine color details. Anna also issued the first UP Manila Corps of Cadets newsletter (Marine Press), and three more subsequent editions. She's planning to publish more (as the fund dictates, that is!).

This Developmental Studies student, also toiled hard as she searched the four corners of the eart for the "missing link"  - the Corps Sponsors (link between COs and cadets). Because of her struggles, she produced ten promnising new sponsors.

Anna is also an active member of other organizations, most of which are society-oriented. Besides these, she is also a learned taekwondo artist. Her forte - "street fighting!"

When asked why she chose to  become a female cadet officer for this venerable Corps, she simply smiiles, pretends to think, and then answers, "I have always wanted to join the ranks of the 'chosen few' and be called a Vanguard Brother--or a Vanguard Sister? Whichever is applicable!"

Joe
Jose Luis Narvaez, Corps Ex-O/G3 '99

Jose Luis H Narvaez

Silence is a no nonsense for this cadet officer for his silence is part of his enigmatic personality. But behind that very calm and gentle aura is the dignified class commander of the Class of '99. Don't fret! He's normal as ever for he is not only a leader in accomplishing class responsibilities, he is also a leader in gimmicks and kalokohan. He is the pharmacist of the class (hope that we get free medicines in the future) and much more important, he is very much single and available (fans, come out, come out!). He believes that there is a proper time for everything, therefore timing is every essential in his melodramatic life.. He is admired by his colleagues and classmates for his dynamic and professional ways and often his decisions make a great difference in discussions.

Joe or Joe d'Mango, as sponsors call him, is not really the type who gives advice on love or whatever, but he has the makings of a future Ryan Cayabyab or a member of the Hootie and the Blowfish for he is not only a composer but a poet as well. He is quite approachable but you will certainly appreciate him once you get to know him, so don't doubt and don't ask, just get to see what he is made of. By the way, he believes he is charming (try to find that out, too!).

Conceive an idea, he will conceive an action; conceive a gimmick, he will be with you all the way!

Elena
Elena Mercado, Corps Adjutant/G1

Elena P Mercado

The name "Sir Mercado" is quite prominent at the Biology department of the College of Arts and Sciences because of a very frequent scenario: CWS cadets would inquire where their Sir Mercado is. Naturally, puzzled professors and personnel would react: "walang ganong instructor dito, noh!" to find out later that the poor cadets were looking for one of their student assistants.

She's the CWS 'big boss' not because she is big nor bossy but because she has been handling the CWS Battalion for the past two semesters (and still insists on the privilege and responsibility for the semesters to come.).

As a person (or is it "persons in one body") this female cadet officer is qite unpredictable (she's suffering from a Multiple Personality Disorder... believe it or not!). but to her classmates and brods she is still the only Elena in the world - the lady?!! (Believe it or not ulit!).

Anyways, time will tell.

TY
Tyronito Anthony Calo, Corps G2 '99

Tyronito Anthony Gerard G Calo

He can be Tyrone, Roni, Nits, Itoy, Anthony, Thony, Thon, Gerard from his first name(s) TYRONITO ANTHONY GERARD, but he settled for less, which is TY (read Tee-Waaay). Whether it stands for 'thank you' or 'tulog 'yo' (he is quite fond of sleeping you know), we don't really know.

But we are quite sure that this dude from Agusan is admired not onlyby his dear girlfriend but also by his loyal Kampilan cadets. Why? It is simply because he is a gentleman of the finest order (when his girlfriend is around).). He also has this quality that makes his cadets feel so much at east and inspired especially when they are doing what is expected of them. No wonder he got the "Best Company Commander" award.

But beware, when his cadets are not being cooperative, he can make them shake their bones and scare them to death (without doing any bodilyharm, man) and when he's done, the cadets do their duty with utmost efficiency.
