Music Intro

I started playing piano when I was seven years old, and when I was thirteen, I heard some Jazz and went looking for a teacher.  Amazingly, world renown jazz legend, Lennie Tristano lived in my neighborhood.  I spent the next four years under his tutelage.

Around that time, I also attended the newly-formed Jazz Department at Queens College.  When they lost funding, I went to, and graduated from, the School of Contemporary Music in Brookline, Boston.

Many Me's

I’ve produced, composed and performed on dozens of CDs, much of which was done under different names.  Some of my recordings were of the “New Age” genre, and I wanted to avoid misunderstandings if someone bought one of my Jazz recordings, expecting a different genre…

These include:

As Andrew Stewart; (with the expert assistance of Jeff Rona)

“Soundscapes“, “Nature Meditations” and others.  Solo piano or synthesizers improvising with the sounds of nature.

As Gordon Jeffries; (also with the expert assistance of Jeff Rona)

“Soothing Classics” Collection; Using the works of Satie, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and others, as a gentle launching pad for improvisation on the themes.

As Stu Charno;

“Pianomation“.  One of the earlier recording on the Yamaha Disclavier grand piano, which is able to receive MIDI/computer information.  So what you hear will often have more than two hands playing.

I’ve also done the score on three short films.

Feel free to listen to some of my stuff here…
